Walburga couldn't help but curse at herself as she got ready for the Pure Blood Summer Ball. Truthfully, it was the only big event that all of the pureblood families had, of course, there were smaller celebrations such as Christmas but having a yearly ball was just an excuse to dress up.

Tonight's ball would not only be a showcase of pureblood unity but also the official announcement of her betrothal to Orion. The weight of this decision pressed upon her like the layers of silk and lace that adorned her.

Remembering her conversation with her father she knew she had to handle her nerves.

As soon as Walburga and Alphard could find an excuse to leave their Uncle's home they did.

Apparating just outside the manor Alphard fixed his hair before sighing and looking at his sister.

"Well, that certainly could have gone worse?" Sarcasm dripped from his voice.

Walburga shot her brother an exasperated look, the tension from the family gathering still lingering. "Worse? Alphard, she is forcing both my and Orion's hand to marriage before either of us is ready."

Clamping and unclamping his hands, Alphard sighed before speaking up again "Why don't you speak to father about all of this...it is his say that goes through the family, not our uncle's, not our aunt's, and unfortunately not ours."

Looking to him, she nodded.  "Okay." Biting at her lip as she thought about her future within the family, she moved to walk inside their home before he stopped her.

"I - I will return tomorrow morning, there is something I must attend to"

Walburga paused, looking at her brother with a furrowed brow. "Attend to? Alphard you've only just arrived yesterday what could need your attention? You have no friends?"

Alphard gave her a half-smile, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "Oh, sister, you underestimate my social life. But this is a family business, something I need to handle. Don't worry, I'll be back before you know it."

He patted her on the shoulder, then, with a swift turn, he disapparated, leaving Walburga standing alone. She knew he was making excuses to not being near their father.

Sighing she entered the manor immediately making her way to her father's study.

Upon entering her his study, She found him engrossed in a pile of paperwork, his attention focused on the intricate details of various family matters. She hesitated for a moment, the weight of her concerns pressing upon her. Taking a deep breath, she spoke up.
