        Annabeth felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her chest. She had been keeping it in for a long time, and part of her was still terrified of rejection. So when Percy ran up to her, she braced herself, and tried to harden her heart.

        "Annabeth, Rachel kissed me, and if you hadn't walked away, you would have seen me reject her. Because the whole time I was thinking of-" he stopped, glaring at her because she'd started chuckling.

        "You're laughing at me!" he whined.

        "I am not!" she replied, amused.

        "You are so not making this easy."

        "I am never gonna make things easy for you, Seaweed Brain." She threw her arms around his neck. "Get used to it."

        She kissed him. And it was... the reason they were in detention for being late to school.
