In an unknown location

Raj was stumped by this new information.
"Yaar mujhe pata tha ki Army mein bhi to some extent, corruption hai. But this... God...."
"Yes Raj. This is not made up. And this is the data of just 5 years. Agar iske pehle ka dekhenge to pata nahin kitni files ban jati." Gunny explained Raj.
"Wahi to. Tu or main bas in sab mein nahi fase the Raj. Just look. Inke target sirf Officers nahi, balki har wo insan jo sensitive information ya location tak pahunch sake." Naveen said, joining the conversation.
"I can see that. 19-20-21 saal ke soldiers se le kar 40-45 tak ki age ke. Everyone is here." Raj said.
"Kabhi honey trap ke allegations ke naam par, kabhi sensitive information leak karne ke naam par, kabhi kisi terrorist ko apna support dene ke naam par or kabhi kisi important file, weapon ya fir koi bhi cheez churane ke naam par, itne logo ki jaan le li in logo. Unbelievable. How can we not notice it?" Raj just could not wrap it around his head.
"As I said, this is the data from the entire nation. In fact, in mein se to bahut se soldiers aise hein, jinhe international mission ke naam par bheja gaya or wo laute hi nahi. Kuchh ko wahi par maar diya gaya kisi bhi aarop mein or kuchh ka to ata-pata hi nahi. Unke parivar aaj bhi intezar kar rahe hein. Ya to unka ya unki maut ki khabar ka." And everyone fell silent. Being soldiers, they very-well knew what it would be like, if they got caught by the enemy.
"Tum dono is mission par kab se kaam kar rahe ho? How come I never knew?" Raj asked both Gunny and Naveen.
Gunny gestured Naveen to go first.
"After I survived, I was really weak. It took me over 3 years to recover completely. I went completely invisible aur later on, ek corporate mein 9-5 job karne laga. Bahut baar koshish ki maa-baba ya apni gudiya se milu par himmat nahi hui. Kya kehta unse? Kya samjhata?" Naveen stopped to wipe his tears.
"And when I heard about you Raj, I was extremely scared. Yaar, meri wajah se tune kitna kya nahi jhela. Aur tujhe isliye hi fasaya gaya tha kyunki tu sach tak pahunchne wala tha. Teri khabar sun kar main toot gaya. Isliye jab mujhe pata chala ki Naina ne bhi army join kar li hai, maine usi waqt kasam kha li. Bhale hi main zindagi bhar unse door rahu par apni behen par aanch nahi aane dunga." Naveen kept sobbing while speaking.
"Fir ek din mujhe contact kiya, R&AW ne. Unhone bola ki meri bachchi ne mujh par aur tujh par lage saare ilzaam mita diye hein. Since ab, poori duniya ke liye to main mar chuka hu, to unhone mujhe apne sath kaam karne ke liye offer kiya. Aur main, apne desh se door kaisa rehta. Ghutan hoti thi mujhe aisi zindagi se. So I said yes, immediately, you know na, once a soldier, always a soldier. So that's how I ended up here. Long story in short, I am still a part of our defence team. I am still working for my country, just from behind the curtains." Naveen explained everything.
Raj just kept mum. Gunny and Naveen looked at each other worriedly.
"Now, you tell me Gunny. What's your part of the story."
"So you know I was missing in action according to the army records. But mujhe manipulate karke Uncle Tom ne na jaane kitne masoom logo ka khoon mere haatho par lagwa diya. Jab tere cadets ko detention centre bheja gaya...."
"Detention centre, mere cadets ko????? What the hell are you saying Gunny?" Raj yelled interrupting Gunny.
"Hear me out first. Jab tere cadets detention centre aaye to mujhe Naina ko maarne ke liye kaha gaya. But as soon as I saw Naveen's and your photo with her, I realized something was off. So I asked the others and when I found out the truth, I made sure to get them out from there safely. And after that, I stayed in contact with them all the time." Gunny told him.
"After they all went to their postings, I was contacted by R&AW for this mission. That's when I realized, that danger was not over yet. When I reached there, I was told to work with other officer in team. That officer turned out to be Naveen. So that's how we both ended up together, on the same mission." Gunny ended his part of the story.
Raj was deep in his thoughts.
"How did I survive?" This was the one thought which was in his mind, since he woke up.
To which Naveen replied.
"I had my men to keep an eye on you. So as soon as they came to know about the blast, they immediately went to rescue you. Hamare paas Intel thi inka next target KMA ka hi koi hai. But jab tak wahan pahunchte, tera accident ho gaya tha. They rescued you and brought you here. Since then, tera treatment is done by the best doctors. And the head of R&AW is keeping all information about your treatment. He might come in this week to visit you."
The whole room was dead silent.
"So............" Naveen said.
Both Raj and Gunny looked up at him.
"Tera aur meri behen ka kya scene hai. And I dare you to lie. Sach bata diyo."
Gunny burst into laughter and Raj paled
"Wo kya hai na... I mean to say... mera matlab." Then he took a deep breathe and said, "Han main Naina se pyar karta hu. Bahut pyar karta hu usse main. Uske bina apni life imagine nahi kar sakta hu main. She is life. My heartbeat. She gave me a reason to breathe, to smile, to laugh, to live my life. She gave me a family. " Naveen's jaw was hanging open while Gunny was clearly unprepared. He thought maybe Raj would lie aur atleast try to deny this.
"Tujhme sharam hai?"
"Nahi."
"Meri behen hai wo."
"To?"
"Abe Oye. Mere hi samne bol raha hai ki tu pyar karta hai usse."
"Pyar karta hu to bol raha hu. Isme sochna kya?"
"Abe...."
"Sun, main marte marte bacha hu Naveen. Marne ke pehle dimag mein jo khayal aate hein na, wo bahut gehre hote hein. Akhiri saans tak ye hi soch raha tha, kaash use 2 min aur seene se lagaya hota. Kaash ek baar, sirf ek uske maathe ko choom kar use bol pata ki uski meri zindagi mein kya ahmiyat hai. Kaash ek baar aur uski khilkhilati hasi sun pata. Kaash use ek baar aur us white suit mein dekh pata. Kaash..... Kaash.... aur ye Kaash har roz mujhe kha rahe hein. To han, mujhe nahi farq padta ki koi kya bolta hai. Kya sochta hai. Main bas ye jaanta hu ki usse pyar karta hu aur uske bina main zinda laash hu. To ab bata... izzat se manega ya teri behen ko bhaga kar shadi kar lu?"
Naveen and Gunny were speechless.
"Saale tu...."

And their bickering went on. They were not Majors now. They were cadets. Still childish.
