EPISODE TWO

Jane was in the public library with Sebastian. It was quiet, though, as hardly anyone came to read. They were reading To Kill a Mockingbird. The words changed positions in her mind and letters moved. It was hard to understand what was being written. Reading was like a secret code that she had to translate. It was awful.

Apparently, she had dyslexia. Seb was the one who pointed it out to her and he helped her ever since, encouraging her to work through it. She always just thought she was slower or stupid but really Vought just didn't want to take the time to teach her and work through her impairment.

She knew immediately she read it wrong because her mind came up with: The beets turned to slop red in rainy weather; the sidewalks grew on grass, the sag in the square of the courthouse.

She knew it made no sense and she groaned. Sebastian was nothing but warm smiles that gave her butterflies every time she looked up at him and his bright blue eyes, "It's okay. Take your time. You'll get it."

She looked back down at the page and tried to force the words and letters back into their original positions before sounding it out slowly, "In rainy weather...the streets turned to red slop...grass grew on the sidewalks, and ... the courthouse sagged in the square."

"See, you got it and it didn't even take that long," Seb said.

She sighed, "Can you let my brain rest now?"

"Sure, princess."

"Do you have everything? A toothbrush? Socks?" she asked as they stood at the airport but then she got to thinking about how her socks kept her from getting blisters. "Socks are important."

"You're such a worry wart," he smiled down at her as she wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. "Yes, I have everything. You won't let me forget."

"I just don't want you to miss anything..." she said as she rubbed her circles into his shoulder before smiling. "...except me."

"I'm always going to miss you, princess," he brought his lips to hers and she melted into his embrace. They kissed as the last call was made over the intercom and she reluctantly had to pull away.

She stepped back from him as he grabbed his bag off the ground, "Don't keep me waiting too long."

"Never," he smiled before he walked away to board his flight.

He had a mission in another city and he would be gone for a few days. She sighed as he was finally out of her view completely. She hated when he left; she never knew what to do without him.

John stood in the office of Stillwell. By now, the news was out that the plane of the Baltimore mayor had went down: engine failure as the news reported.

"Hey, you found Translucent yet?" he asked Stillwell.

         "No, not yet."

"Well, you know, I could search for him. Personally."

"That's not necessary," she smiled kindly.

"Right," he looked away in irritation.
