Skylar's POV

We rang the doorbell and were waiting for someone to open the door. Ace wanted to walk in just like that but I told him that it wouldn't be polite.

He really needs to learn how to knock

I could see that he didn't want to be here. It's hard for him to forget about this whole situation with his parents and start everything over. But he's trying and that's what matters.

Finally, the door flew open and Sara appeared in front of us. She looked gorgeous. Despite her age, she was still slim, without a single wrinkle and always elegant and classy. Her long, silver dress glittered in the lamplight making her look even more stunning.

"Hello, I'm so glad that you two managed to come." She said with a genuine smile on her face.

"Don't be too enthusiastic, we'll not stay long." Ace replied maliciously and then walked inside without even a single glance towards her direction.

I slowly walked inside as well. When I heard that she closed the door behind me, I turned around and faced her.

"I wanted to congratulate you on your promotion." I cast her a small smile and she returned it, placing her hand on my shoulder.

"Thank you, darling. You have no idea how much it means to me that you both are here."

It was clear that this situation was also difficult for her and she would like to make things right and regain the bond she once had with her son. But Ace can be so stubborn sometimes and it won't be that easy, but on the other hand, I don't blame him. He was very close with his father and no wonder that he is mad at Sara. I think I would be too.

Ace wrapped his arm around my waist and we slowly started walking towards the livingroom. When we entered, I think I gasped a little. The room was huge, in the middle was a very long and beautifully decorated table where people were sitting. Not everyone though because some of them were standing next to it, talking and laughing.

I noticed that many heads turned in our direction and some whispers were audible from across the room. I lowered my head immediately not liking the feeling of being stared at. I felt a soft kiss pressed to my cheek and I lifted up my head to see Ace already looking down at me.

"You are beautiful, Skylar. Never forget that."

I was just standing and gazing into his chocolate eyes. I cannot comprehend how this man consider himself a bad person. Every single day he reminds me of my worth and brings my inner peace. When I have a bad mental health day, he doesn't make me feel guilty for it but gives me support that I didn't even know I needed. I always fought my own battles without any help, when I was crying in the middle of the night, there was no one to comfort me. I've been through so much shit and pain alone but now I don't have to be alone.
I have him.

Suddenly, a tall, dressed in a black suit man came up to us. His hair was perfectly styled and his back was straight. He walked with a confident step.

"Ace, it's great to see you."

He stretched his hand out in front of him for Ace to shake but Ace was just looking at him with straight face.

"Unfortunatelly, I can't say the same." He replied with a look that could kill.

Wanting to fix this awkward situation I extended my hand and introduced myself to him. He is part of my boyfriend's family after all. Besides, someone has to be an adult here when my grumpy Ace is acting like a child.

"Hi, I'm Skylar. It's nice to meet you." I offered him a smile and he returned it.

"Oh! Yes, I've heard a lot about you and I'm glad that we finally met. I'm Brian."
