There was a special sort of bond between Hawk and Kody.
A few months ago, a sad boy, in tears, stumbled into his moms little hair salon, wanting a change. Dotti had encouraged Kody to help him out, raising him in the salon, and knowing a teenage boy would know more about a fellow teenage boy. It took a while, but the two finally decided on blue, Eli's decision to go with the spikes. Even though any hair dresser would have done it, he felt bonded to Kody, like he owed it to him for giving him so much confidence, for changing him into a new person.
That's why Hawk ended up pulling Kody everywhere he went. He sat front row at the All Valley, brought him to the tattoo shop for the back tat, they shared a beer at the Canyon, and later went on to eat victory nachos together . He always tried to encourage Kody to join Cobra Kai, saying he had the right look and that he could seriously build up his noodle arms. And, it wasn't that Kody wasn't open to the idea, because he knew he'd probably actually really love it.
But Jimmy O'Dell was once a Cobra Kai, and he wasn't letting his son get wrapped up in that sort of thing.
When a sudden work trip is in order, the one thing stopping Kody from joining the dojo was no longer here, off for a few months. To Hawks joy, Kody showed up for the class and was finally taking his advice. He started to question why he liked Kody being around so much, why he fought so hard for him to join Cobra Kai so they could spend their summer days together.
The last thing he imagined was that he might have feelings for another boy, especially when he'd only ever liked girls before.
