Harry wasn't the only child born to Lily and James Potter; there was one other. Harry's twin brother, James Potter Jr. James, like his brother, had black hair and green eyes, except his hair was darker, and his green eyes were just as green if not brighter than the curse that killed his parents.

After Voldemort had killed James and Lily Potter, he turned his wand onto little Harry and James. He cast the killing curse at them, hitting Harry, who gained the scar and the piece of Voldemort, while James absorbed the raw magic of the curse. When Dumbledore found the two brothers, he proclaimed Harry to be the boy who lived because of the scar on his head and the fact that James was untouched.

Dumbledore then had Hagrid take both boys and fly them to the Dursleys, where they were left on their doorstep.

Growing up, James and Harry were treated like slaves by the Dursleys, made to do all the chores, cook for them, and were even forced to sleep together in a small cupboard. James hated it, and he hated them for treating him and Harry like this, his hate would sometimes spike, and then something unexplainable would happen when it did. One time the fire on the stove shot up, making the flame stand over a foot in the air singing Petunia's hair, another time, a vase exploded, or when Dudley pushed him down to the ground, James glared at him. Dudley went flying through the air before crashing back down to the ground and breaking his arm.

James became cold to others around him, not wanting them to find any of his weaknesses or tell what he was feeling, and he hid his genius intellect from everyone so he would be left alone. If Harry or James got better grades than Dudley in school, the teachers and the Dursleys would accuse them of cheating and fail them, or in Dursley's case, beat them.

The only thing James had in life was his brother, who kept him from falling into a pit of despair that he might never crawl out of.

Now, at nearly eleven years old, both Harry's and James's lives are about to change.

Both boys were sleeping inside the small cupboard that barely had room for the both of them until light suddenly shone through the vent in the door, waking them up.

"Up. Get up." Petunia says, knocking on the closet door repeatedly. "Now!" She yells, smacking the door of the closet before walking away.

Harry and James wake up and turn on the bedroom light as Harry puts on his glasses which were held together with tape on the bridge, indicating they were partly damaged. Unlike Harry, James didn't have bad eyesight and could see perfectly fine. They then hear Dudley suddenly come running down the stairs above the closet. Dudley stopped halfway down and went back, jumping on the staircase above the closet, making dust fall on Harry and James. James growled in annoyance at this.

"Wake up, cousins! We're going to the zoo!" Dudley yells.

Dudley laughs as he comes down the stairs and runs for the kitchen. Harry tries to get out of the closet but is pushed back in by Dudley, who runs into the kitchen.

"Oh, here he comes, the birthday boy!"

"Happy birthday, son."

Petunia and Dudley giggle together as they hug each other. Harry and James come into the kitchen, dressed in outgrown clothes.

"Why don't you two just cook the breakfast and try not to burn anything," Petunia says hatefully to the two brothers

"Yes, Aunt Petunia," Harry says as James grumbles as the two get to cooking the breakfast.

"I want everything to be perfect for my Dudley's special day," Petunia says gleefully as she covers Dudley's eyes, leading him to where his birthday presents are.
