We accept
The love we are given
Because that is
What we think love is
That's why I hated the idea
Of marriage for so long
Because my first
Boyfriend
Taught me that love
Is controlling
Manipulative
And oppressive
And I accepted the controllingness
Because that is what
I thought love was
And it was not
Until I began to
Tentatively
Date again
That I realized that love
Is respectful
Selfless
Boundaries
And pure
Love does not have to be oppressive
Dating shouldn't feel like a cage
Marriage isn't a
Life sentence
Love is pure, respectful, and beautiful
Love is not controlling, manipulative,
And oppressive
We accept how we
Are treated because we believe
That the love we receive
Is love
When it is not real love
It is not until
Real love is revealed
That we realize how unloving
And how painful
The treatment we previously accepted
Truly was
