MENTIONS OF ABUSE (nothing physical)

act three
chapter 'kaksikymmentäkahdeksan' twenty-eight

it was a struggle to breathe, her lungs collapsing on top of themselves. she wanted to scream, cuss him out, but her mind wouldn't let her.

staring at the man with wide eyes, she shook her head, even with her whole body fighting against it.

an unsettling laugh came from the doorway, the only sound in the whole area. it seemed everyone else couldn't move, starstruck from the whole situation. no shuffles of feet, no quiet murmurs between people, it was silent. dead silent.

another laugh was heard, except this time it was a giggle, and extremely high pitched. located behind her, vasiliki didn't dare turn her gaze away from her father.

she just wanted to slap that awful bitch in the face. there could be worse things done, but maybe now isn't the best of times to be thinking of them. how could one person be so infuriating?

"no? how unfortunate," he taunted, a pout clear on his face. the figure grew ever so slightly closer, his body growing bigger from the lack of distance. the girl tried scurrying away, but where could she go?

no one was doing anything, no one knew what was going on. except for kaylah, of course, but she was just standing behind, waiting for the situation to unfold.

"speak to me!" his voice was harsh, saliva droplets falling out of his mouth. narrowing his eyes, the brown irises were almost completely engulfed, pupils only barely visible.

she couldn't. what was she supposed to say without making a fool of herself? it was awkward enough having everyone watching, especially when she didn't know how to handle the situation.

"i said-" the father took another step forward, now completely inside the residence, "-speak!"

with the void she felt she was falling in, a rough hand grabbed her back, catching her before she fell. she was thankful for them, finally gaining her consciousness to move again.

but what would be the smartest way to handle the situation? the door was open, a simple way to escape, but it all seemed too easy. she didn't bring a car, and to hell, she could travel that distance on feet without getting caught.

that idea was dismissed quickly, the girl watching the brunette shut the door. with a cat-like walk, she stood next to the newest arrival, her lips turning to a smirk.

the height difference was quite remarkable, even with heels kaylah couldn't meet his height. it closed any free space off, the room feeling more claustrophobic than it was before.
