MENTIONS OF ABUSE

act one
chapter kaksi 'two'

she tugged at her scalp. the freshly bleached strands lighter than normal, could even call platinum. why did he want her to go so light? was it the colour of her mother's hair? but if that was the case, neither parent had her natural tone.

she held a clump of almost-white hair, trailing two fingers down to flick up the ends. they were dead, split, it had gotten to the point where it was visible. one may look at her and gush over the length, but the owner knew just how bad it was.

of course, the girl's father didn't care. he gripped the steering wheel with force, eyes glaring at the road. occasional blasting car beeps were heard, due to his reckless driving. the vehicle swerved across the centre line, tires screeching at the impact.

reaching their house, the father ripped his seatbelt off, scurrying to the other side of the car. the passenger side door was swung open, revealing the girl in her casual outfit.

"i told you, you need to stop wearing such unflattering clothes," he spoke, staring down at his daughter in displeasure.

she was wearing a large hoodie with oversized tracksuits. nothing fancy, and nothing she would want to wear, but it was to keep the unwanted, prying eyes off her. if she was barely out of the house, why bother trying to make an impression? "you never let me go shopping."

"order it online," he simply responded, dragging her out of the car.

she wouldn't lift her shoes off the ground, causing distracting friction. she would let the soles glide on the concrete, particles wearing down the patterns.

before they entered, vasiliki noticed a rolled-up newspaper on the doormat. raindrops were evident on the plastic, the weather was always unpredictable at this time of year. she bent down to pick it up, shaking the liquid off behind her.

"suspicions for the anonymous artist; elysian"

front headline? it wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last. there were many women on the page, all varying in ages, all varying in looks. some were italian, some were romanian, some were dutch. vasiliki always took these as a compliment, seeing as no one could pinpoint her origins.

"anonymous artist 'elysian' has been out of public eye ever since they started. their first album release in 2013 sparked interest in many listeners."

2013, a time when she was fifteen. oh, how she didn't miss those days.

"with all their albums in different genres, some searches are concluding that 'elysian' is full of multiple singers, possibly a band."
