Isaiah.

Such a simple word but it made him stop.

Like he was fearful of it.

He looked like a deer in headlights.

It was a glimpse that only lasted mere seconds, but it was there nonetheless.

"You didn't pay." I let out. "You were close to, but we didn't pay the stupid bill."

They both looked at me like I'd started speaking in tongues. "I'm sorry about that it seemed like there was more pressing issues at hand."

"I'll go back in in the morning." Theo scolded Samael. The idea of police crept my mind as I looked up to the stars in the sky. They put their lives, their very prominent and successful lives ahead of mine.

"Thank you." What else was there to say?

"That dick was checking you out since we entered the place. I should have known, I'm sorry." Theo said with the softest of eyes. The kind of eyes that you wouldn't expect after someone held someone down for their friend to beat the shit out of. Not like Samael needed the support.

Joel was finished the moment he knew.

The thought of not telling Levai enters my mind. It's only the third day he's left, and his friends have kicked the absolute shit out of someone the first time we go out. He's also consumed with work and tiredness, would he need the added stress?

But then again, I made a promise never to hide anything from him. Though it wasn't an outright lie not to tell him, it was definitely a technicality that Levai wouldn't appreciate.

He would find out eventually anyways. People talk.

The strides these men took were so long that I just couldn't keep up. The neon signs were still shining behind me as I just felt the sudden urge to laugh, so I did.

I laughed hard.

"I'll shift you once your shift is done." Holding onto my stomach, I nearly tumbled over. Their eyes were fixated on me. Amusement or sympathy or irritation clouded their face, but frankly I didn't really care.

What a terrible pickup line.

"Being with Levai made me forget how terrible British boys can be." I let out once my laughter dials down.

It's true, being with Levai brought a certain security that I'd never felt before. He didn't communicate it through his fists like these guys, although I was certain that if the situation was ever serious enough, he wouldn't hesitate.

But the thought of him saying "you're fit" in his delicious accent made me start crying with laughter.

And soon Theo joined me. "Hey we aren't all bad."

"No no, all except you Theo, you're the only Brit boy I can tolerate." We exchanged laughs with each other at Joel's expense, and I could have sworn I also saw Samael hold back a reluctant smile.

"How was dinner?" Levai asked. I hopped onto the call the moment I got back, letting the guys know what was happening.

"Oh God get ready for this one." He adjusted himself in his chair, dropping his pen and giving me his full attention. Folding his arms, I could see the outline of his forearms in his sweater, and I had to focus on the events of the day to distract me.

"So, we're at this American diner right. Cheesy as can be, if you don't know what that is just find a classic one from google, because we aren't going back to that one when you return." He furrowed his eyebrows at that, but I continued rambling through broken laughs. I laughed when I was nervous, but I wasn't sure what I was feeling.
