"This is where you wanted me to drop you?" He inquires as we both stare at the torn down building.
I nodded to him, concern running all through his face.
"Do you mind unlocking the door?" I ask gently, hoping not to push his buttons as I had done previously.

There was mild tension in the car as a result of my stunt but I wouldn't say I regretted it.
Whilst I enjoyed our flirtatious banter at home, this was the first time we did anything physical about it, and it helped maintain some semblance of control in the power imbalance of our dynamic.

"I want your number." His stern look on his face crept up, the assertive dripping from him.
"Odd time to request it. Why don't we settle for a friendly handshake and see where time takes us?" I reply, attempting to lighten the mood.

His face wouldn't budge and soon his grey eyes were staring into mine. Except, they were no longer grey, his dominance replacing its natural colour into a cloudy mist.
"I'll call this evening, just to make sure you're okay."
I take his phone from his palms, putting my number in his contacts.
"Any other demands?"
He shakes his head and releases the lock allowing me out of the car.

I walk out of the car and offer Levai a wave goodbye until realising he wasn't pulling out of the driveway.
He was waiting to make sure I was safe.
Something softened within me which was interrupted by a text.
Who the fuck was that in the car?

I bit the insides of my index finger whilst driving back home.

I could still smell her on me as well as taste her beautiful lips which were plastered against mine mere hours ago.

Once I got out of the car, I went back to my home, needing a drink.
I pull out a crystal bottle with the words Jack Daniels written in cursive. Thanks Sandrine.

A delicious thought crept into my mind at the thought of having Miriam here, cleaning the cobwebs off the home that remained untouched for the past year and a half.

I didn't particularly enjoy the thought of living here. The choice to purchase this place was made once I realised how difficult it would be to stay physically close to family as well as keep up with my personal life.

The notification for a video conference filled up the empty walls. I'd anticipated that my professor would call within the window of the next hour but I hadn't even prepared for him to call the moment the clock struck 18:00.

I placed my drink on my desk and turn my camera on, buttoning up my shirt.

"Hello Levai and Anne. It's so lovely to see you both. Apologies for this, but I have quite exciting news for you both."

We were certainly intrigued, ready for whatever proposal he was willing to offer us. Professor Torres was by far the best we had had, his rigorous teaching style combing through the minds of each student in his classroom.

"The research position has been offered. You are the two who have been chosen to compete for the role."

My ears burned with interest. Anne, my fellow classmate, could not have been a more worthy opponent. Intellectually speaking, she was beyond anything I could have imagined as well as her kind spirit.
