And.... the most important headcanon/theory...
-Benthomaar's species was endangered, and trafficked on many ships, which Kelmaar unknowingly crashed, this helping him, allowing Benthl to be one of the last of his species alive. Why doesn't he remember this? In the initial crashing of the ship he was kept on, his head was bashed against a beam due to the ship shifting, and he passed out, falling into the water, with a moderate case of amnesia.
