I left the house knowing I would be late for class. Of course Tiffany wouldn't drive me. Besides I would much rather walk for days then be alone with her for two minutes.

I got to school 10 minutes after class had begun the halls were empty and I walked to my locker. I started to do in my combination. When Luke Adams came up to his locker.
"Ella right?" He asked.
"That's me." I said.
I couldn't believe he was noticing me. He slammed his locker and I flinched at the loud bang that echoed through the hallways.
"Why do you do that?" He asked.
He sounded annoyed.
"Do what?" I asked.
"This." He said.
And he slammed his hand against the locker. I didn't see it coming and my whole body clenched.
"Can I ask you something?" I asked.
"I'm an open book." He told me.
"Why the sudden interest you never cared before." I told him.
He didn't answer.
"That's what I thought." I said.
I started to walk away.

He stopped me by grabbing my waist. I let out a slight cry, he knew I was in pain and instantly let go. I turned around to face his concerned eyes. He looked at me for a second so I broke the silence between us.
"I'm late." I told him and walked to class. A single tear trembled down my face because of the pain in my ribs.
