Hindi ko alam kung ilang beses akong huminga ng malalim habang nakatayo sa may pintuan. It has been almost a minute when I got the permission to come inside the office.
Kung dati ay halos pasukin ko ito nang walang pakundangan, ngayon ay pakiramdam ko nasa tapat ko ang isang pintuan patungo sa isang bangin na isang tapak mo pa lang ay kamatayan na ang mararating mo.
I inhaled a huge amount of breath before knocking on the door to be polite and to reassure that I really got a permission to enter.
"Come in," said from the other side.
I almost jumped in my place when I heard that cold voice. My hand trembled a little as I reach for the knob and open the door.
The huge glass wall is what caught my sight first. The inside was not lit up and only the light from the outside through that glass wall is illuminating the office. Napalunok ako ng laway nang makita ang pigura ng lalaking nakatayo sa gitna no'n.
He was extremely tall and his built was something you could see out of a magazine. The lighting gave a perfect silhouette emphasizing his sharp jaw and prominent nose. Nanatiling blangko ang emosyon niya kahit na nakatingin sa'kin.
He sat on his swivel chair without averting his gaze.
"U-Uhm, iyong pinapabigay po na mga dokumento ni Engineer Lopez." I was stumbling with my words, I can't even look at him.
Kung dati ay hindi naman siya tumitingin sa akin kahit na halos tunawin ko sa siya sa titig, ngayon ako naman ang hindi mapakali sa sitwasyon. It felt like I should bow down to his presence, that kind of intimidation was what I'm feeling right now.
Mabilis na nilapag ko iyon sa may lamesa niya at agad na umatras ako at bumalik sa pwesto ko. I kept a three meter distance from him, like I was drawing the line between us that I shouldn't cross or else it's over.
"K-Kung wala na po kayong sasabihin o iuutos, babalik na po sana ako sa trabaho ko."
Again, he didn't answer which before was getting me pissed, but now I was grateful for his silence because I don't think I have the courage to talk to him. It felt wrong now. Making advance at him felt like doing a crime.
"Uh, thank you, Sir. I'll leave now." pormal na tumungo pa ako at agad na tumalikod para dumiretso na palabas.
"Wait," he said which made me halted.
Napapikit ako ng mariin at kinagat ko ang pang-ibabang labi ko nang marinig ko iyon.
Ito na ba? Alam na niya ba? Tatanggalan na niya rin ba ako ng trabaho dahil tingin niya isa lang din akong dumi na nangdadarag sa kompanya?
He probably also did a thorough investigation on me since he saw me in that yacht. Although he told me that I have nothing to do with it, I still planned to ruin them and I'm sure he knows now.
"B-Bakit po?" I tried smiling like I used to but it ended up forced.
"It's not yet cleaned."
Umawang ang labi ko dahil hindi ko naintindihan ang sinabi niya. He traced his long finger on his huge table and rubbed it.
"You're in maintenance, right?" he said.
"Opo,"
"Then clean it."
Para akong natanga sa pwesto ko at hindi gumalaw. Ilang segundo pa bago ko naintindihan kung ano ang gusto niyang ipahiwatig. Muli akong awkward na ngumiti at tumango.
