»What's wrong, Sai?« The female siren-like demon looked at the worried inventor that walked towards her. Sai-Rin was in the large watertub that Baxter built for her, because she liked the ocean and the tub gave her the slight feeling of being in it.

She stared at him, drifting back off to her thoughts until he asked again. Her periwinkle eyes move to the ground while she sighed. »I just thought about my past again. Don't worry.« Baxter nodded understanding.

»You haven't told me about it yet but I can clearly see that it seriously bothers you... you can tell me anytime if you feel comfortable enough, I'll be here and listen to you.« The both demons have met not long ago.

Baxter was walking around in the pentagram, deep in thoughts about his inventions and how to improve them when he met Sai-Rin, who was new in hell. He felt attracted to her but hesitated to approach her, not wanting to scare her in any way.

She looked confused and lost so he decided to talk to her and ended up inviting the female to his home. She wasn't comfortable with it but she had no other choice so she accepted his offer.

They've become good friends ever since then but neither of them told the other about their past. She'd always ignore her pain and sadness to not be a bother to Baxter but sometimes she couldn't help but think about it again.

» If you wanna talk about it then I'll be here for you.« He smiled at her and went back to his invention. Sai-Rin looked after him, deciding wether she should call him back and talk or leave him be for now.

She choose the second option but would talk with him later on, for now she had to calm herself down, so she dived under the water and swam around.

The mermaid demon emerged from the water again and looked for the anglerfish demon who just happen to take a break form his work. She placed her arms on the edge of the tube. »Hey Baxter?« He looked at her with his cyan and red eyes. »Hm? What's wrong Sai?«

Sai-Rin's midnight blue tail swayed nervously in the water as she thought about how she should start the upcoming, probably sad conversation. »I- uhm... I'm ready to talk. If you still want of course...«

»Of course I still want, why wouldn't I?« The female shrugged her pale blue - almost white - shoulders and looked away with a red hue of embarrassement in her face. Baxter smiled softly and walked over to her, getting inside the tub too.

He layed his arms down beside hers, on the edge, while he placed his head on them. He looked at Sai-Rin, who took a deep breath. »Well, back when I was still alive I loved the ocean. The waves and coolness of it always calmed and fascinated me, but sadly back then I also didn't know how to swim.

Nonetheless I always went inside it, noone knew that I couldn't swim, so they didn't pay extra attention to me while I was playing in the water. I went as far as I could but one time I went too far. The waves tore me with them, deeper inside the ocean and far away from the land. The last time I was on the water surface I could've sworn that I saw people looking to my direction but they did nothing, like they didn't see me.

My whole body ached from my tries to stay alive and I tried to shout for the others but that only gave the water the chance to get into my lungs. I stopped trying to survive, knowing I'll lose anyway. My lungs burned but I kept my eyes open to look at my blurred surroundings. It was actually beautiful. If it wouldn't have been so painful then I'd like to be in that situation again...«

Sai-Rin stopped, looking at Baxter's face to see his emotions. He looked very sad, genuinely sad, like he knew what she went through, dying in the place she loved. Her gaze went down to her pale hands that grabbed the edge tightly. »I went uncouncious and when I woke up again I was here, in hell. You know the rest...«

Baxter nodded and even though he didn't like being touched or touching general, he placed an arm around her shoulders and pulled her towards him, wiping some of her tears away that she didn't even know were coming out of her eyes. »Yes, I do. Thanks for telling me, Sai. Our deaths are actually quite similar. I drowned too but the situation was different.«

He looked at her wet face, wiping some tears away again. »Have you heard about the Ship-accident in the 1910's?« The siren nodded. »I've heard something about it but not much...« »I was on it. I loved the ocean too, I still do but that accident also taught me to fear it. We wanted to sail to our neighbor country with a friend's ship.

They had some business there and invited me in, saying it would be ›fun‹. It went well for the first few days, we intend on arriving the next day after our accident. In the night a storm appeared right in front of us, we had no chance than to try to sail through it. It went well for some time but then it got worse. The wind got stronger and the waves rougher, they beaten against the hull, throwing it from side to side with it's force.

Some of our comrades fell from the ship and into the depths of the water, the rest of us couldn't even help them in any way. Just wait and hope for it to be over soon. Everyone of us prayed not to be the next one who'll die while we tried to grip onto something to not lose our balance. It was useless of course. Soon I lost my grip and felt down too.«

He sighed, feeling better than before but still pained by the memories of his past. Sai-Rin layed her head on his shoulder while tears kept on spilling out of her eyes. »I'm sorry to hear that...« He winked off, not wanting her to pity him, she had enough to bear. »No, no, it's alright. It's been more than a century, don't worry.«

They stayed beside eachother in comfortable silence, both thinking about eachother and what they've experienced. »I guess it was worth it though... If I didn't die then I wouldn't have met you. So, I guess there's something good to it.« Sai-Rin broke the silence. Baxter nodded in agreement. »I agree but I wouldn't do it again... it's like choking on your drink but like 100 times worse...«

Sai-Rin chuckled at Baxter's attempt to lift the mood up again, shaking her head. »Ha, yeah.« She relaxed back into his half-embrace, closing her eyes. He smiled at her again. »Hey, how about I'll clean the mess I've made up there and then we'll swim together inside here?«

Baxter suggested while pointing to his desk that didn't even look like one anymore. She smiled too, nodding excited. »Sure, I'd like that. Can I help you cleaning it?« He looked towards his desk and then back to her, shrugging his shoulders.

»If you really want to...« »Yes, now let's go! The sooner we're done, the sooner we can swim together.« The inventor laughed with a small blush on his face. »Yes, yes. Anything for you, Sai.«

Do forgive me for that 'it's like choking on your drink but like 100 times worse' I wanted to lift the mood up again somehow, hope it worked.

The next page will be about information about the story I intend on doing in collaboration with someone.
