“I want you to have it.”

Ichiru Shisui stared at his reflection in the mirror. A new ornament decorating his neckline.

“It was your father’s.”

His young fingers traced the delicate piece of jewelry and he tried to picture his father wearing it.
Did he look like him?

“Didn’t he give it to you?”

“No,” Taryn smiled, “I took it when he died so I could give it to you when you were old enough to understand.”

Ichiru dropped his hand. His refelction did the same.

“Shouldn’t you keep it, mom?”

“You’re an Uchiha. It belongs to you.”

An Uchiha.

His hands folded in fists and he bit his lip.

Uchiha. Once upon a time it would have been a name to be proud of. But now? Murderers. Traitors. Criminals. A name tainted by blood.

“You should wear it with pride.”

The boy sighed. He still wasn’t sure how to feel about this all. Daro’s words had eased his pain a little, but with his five years old mind, it was still a lot to deal with.

His clan had tried to overthrow Konoha. His father had eradicated them to ensure peace and his uncle had killed his father beacause… ‘because he asked him to’ his mind finished for him, ‘because my dad couldn’t live with the pain.’

Ichiru closed his eyes.

“Don’t you think Sasuke was just as angry and sad as you are now?”

He tried to imagine what it would be like to walk in one day and find his mother having murdered all his friends. He shivered and quickly shook his head to get rid of the image. Sasuke hadn’t been much older than him when it had happened to him. It must have been horryfying.

Ichiru sighed. He had to tell his uncle he was sorry.

Taryn looked up when Ichiru came out of his room and sat down at the breakfast table. Itachi’s necklace was around the boy’s neck. She was still getting used to not wearing it anymore, but giving it to her son was the right thing to do. He should have something that had belonged to his father.

It didn’t take long for Sasuke to appear as well. When he saw Ichiru siting at the table, he hesitated for a moment before sitting down next to the boy. Both were staring at their plates, caught in an awkward silence.
