His dark eyes widened briefly before he maintained his composure. "Hey," he simply said, looking as if he was resisting something. The only thought that occured in my mind was that he knew. He remembered me.

Elena smiled, oblivious to everything going on. "Okay, well let's go back to my room. I just wanted to show Flora the balcony," she said merrily as she began walking back inside. I followed behind her. Before we went back inside, I gave Javier one last look, and after seeing the fervent look embedded in his chocolate eyes, I wish I hadn't.

In Elena's room, she talked aimlessly over small things. School, work, that kind of stuff. It was when she was in the middle of a story that I could finally attempt to collect my thoughts.

That reaction I had was far from normal. It wasn't like I liked Javier. I definitely don't. I'm in love with Wes. I was simply intrigued by him, though for the life of me I didn't know why. He was tall, but lots of people were tall, guys especially. He had dark brown hair, nothing considered too special. Tan skin, but that wasn't quite uncommon either. And his eyes. They weren't the dark sea-blue eyes that Wes has, or even the light amber that Dylan has. Javier's eyes were just brown. But to me, they were the most mysterious, alluring eyes I'd ever seen.

Elena was still discussing her story when a knock resounded through the door. "Come in," Elena called.

The door opened slowly, revealing Javier on the other side. I began to sweat as anxiety kicked in. Something about his presence was both wary and enticing. Like I was on edge to see what he would do next.
