Chapter Thirty Four

October 16

"POPPY. YOU BETTER WAKE UP. WE'RE LEAVING IN 45 MINUTES." Karson yells smacking me with his pillow. "I'm awake." I mumble. I really don't want to get up.

"You better get up or Kaylin's gonna get the water." 

I shoot up out of my bed. "Alright. I'm up. Now leave so I can get ready.

Karson leaves and I hurry around our room to collect my clothes. Then I take a quick shower and brush through my hair and brush my teeth, doing all the normal things. 

I'm wearing a grey 'Coffee Books & Rain' t-shirt with a random pair of jeans. I slip on two different socks and put on my converse. Then I'm ready to go. I'm not going to bother with makeup today because ugh. 

I shove my usual things into my black drawstring backpack and examine myself in the mirror one last time. Let's go to the Zoo.

Everyone sits in the same spot as they did yesterday in the van. "I wonder if they'll have a bear." Kaylin grins and I roll my eyes jokingly. Back on this again. I'm pretty sure she's already saw a bear with Nat but oh well. 

"As long as there isn't a shark that will be eyeing you the whole time, I'm cool with it." Nat grins, smoothly laying an arm around her shoulders.

Kaylin laughs. "Don't worry, I broke up with that shark when you tried to get with Poppy." 

Chandler turns his head and looks at Nat.

Nat laughs. "It's a joke. Back in Gatlinburg we went to an aquarium. There was a shark there, it kept eyeing Kaylin, so I pretended to be jealous and went to Poppy. She rejected me." Nat explains. Chandler nods and smiles over at me.

Turns out, this place is like a garden zoo so we could actually touch the birds and some other animals if they came close enough. Which is extremely cool.

Right now we're all going at different paces. Some of our group is in front of us and the others are behind. We just walked through the Parrot area and are now looking at the monkeys.

There's one in the very back corner picking at a twig. "THAT ONE LOOKS JUST LIKE ALEX." Nat exclaims pointing at hit.

"I wanna touch it." Kaylin grins, reaching her fingers through the fence. Sadly it's too far away for her to reach and she retreats her hand.

We move on down and there's a bird feeding thing. Sam grins and grabs some bird feed from the dispenser. "Can I get it to follow me?" He waves the feed in front of the bird's face and it makes a screeching sound and starts pecking it's beak towards the food. Sam screams and throws the food on the ground and cowers behind Chandler who is now laughing at his friend's girl scream.

"That bird doesn't like you." Kaylin laughs. Sam makes a really stupid noise at it that kind of sounds like a goat. Nat joins in. The bird then lands on Nat's hand and takes the apple out of his fingers. Nat stares at it in amusement.

"I really hope it doesn't poop on me."

Chandler grabs my hand as we walk towards the flamingos.

"Hey Karson, they're almost taller than you." Cara grins. Karson rolls his eyes. "They're like 3 feet. I'm almost 5 feet."

I love how Cara always jokes about Karson's height even though he's almost my height. Compared to everyone Kaylin and I are really short yet they pick on him. It's lovely.

Nat bends his knees and does some weird walk trying to imitate the flamingos. Sam does the same. They then start making what I'm assuming is flamingo noises. A couple flamingos turn to face them then walk away to follow the rest of the flamingos.
