Chapter Fourteen

June 13th

Summer Day 14

I wake up the next morning to my eyes being sticky with tears. Yesterday's events replay in my mind like a broken record on repeat. I take a glance over at my clock and see that it's 8 a.m. Great.

Kaylin's already awake and on her phone. 

I check mine and see the group chat has like 50 unread messages. None of them are that important other than the last couple.

Cara :P - so what's the plan for today?

Kaylin the only ten i see : idk um poppy is kind of leaving tomorrow...

Nat the Bat: What?? Why omg. POPPY 

Poppy Seed: my dad ... he uh wants to try and get custody of karson and i so we have to leave tomorrow

Australia: what are we supposed to do with just the 6 of us?

Poppy Seed: well at least you have an even number again

Nat the Bat: bro u cant go that's not fair ik ur mom ain't making u go..is she?

Poppy Seed: No, but the law kind of says i have to 

Nat the Bat: we're coming over. be there soon

I let out a sigh and look over at Kaylin. "I don't want you to go." She whispers. "I don't want to either." I tell her and stand up. May as well start packing now. 

Kaylin stares at me as I cross the room. "What are you doing?" She asks as soon as I grab my suitcase. "Packing." I mutter and I hear her move off the bed. She starts helping me. 

It takes us about 25 minutes to pack all of my stuff that I won't need today. "This isn't fair." She mutters, standing up. Before I can say anything, the door bursts open and Nat, Austin, Cara, Halston, and Justice all pile into the room at once. I didn't think they were actually coming. 

Austin notices my already packed suitcase and stares at it. "You were serious." He whispers. He didn't believe us? Or maybe he didn't want to. 

"Of course I was serious." 

Austin looked hurt. "I'm staging a protest." Nat says and sits in the floor right where he is sitting, trying to lighten the mood, you could see that he was upset too. 

"So, today's our last day with you?" Cara asks, ignoring Nat's attempt at a protest. I nod. "Yeah, I guess it is." 

Everyone stands in silence, other than Nat, who has now crawled over and started hugging the end pole of Kaylin's bed, until Karson walks in. "Marian made breakfast if you guys want any." He says awkwardly looking over at Nat. "We'll be right there." I tell him and he nods and walks out of the room. 

"I guess we'll have to make the best of today." Cara says looking at the door. It's almost 9 a.m.

"We could go hang out in like Pigeon Forge or something and then come back here and hang out or something, bring Karson with us." Halston suggests and I nod. "That sounds fun." 

The seven of us make our way to the kitchen to tell the adults. "Is it cool if we go to Pigeon Forge today?" Nat asks, taking a seat at the kitchen table and shoving a piece of bacon into his mouth. "Oh, and can Karson come too?" Karson's face lights up a little. 

Kaylin's parents and my Mom look at each other then nod. Nat grins and looks at Karson who's now sitting across from him. "When you get done eating go get dressed. Today's gonna be fun." He says and Karson smiles as much as he can since his face is kind of full of food.
