It started in 7th grade, somewhere near April. So, since it was near the end of the year, we had this small party, and it was the buzz around school. Every girl was planning to look pretty, and every guy was getting a tux. I decided to wear something, too. I wore a semi-formal dress, and some black flats. (I remember this exactly, because it was the worst day of my life.)

I met my friends at the party, and one of them was crying. Her name was "Amy." She told us that multiple people called her a slut because of what she was wearing. I looked at her attire, and she was wearing something similar to mine, except a little shorter. She cried her head off, and we all wanted to comfort her. After a bit of comforting, she went home.

The next few days at school, she wasn't there. A week later, she arrived, and all my friends pestered her about why she wasn't there. She didn't answer any of us. She was very different that time, after that night. That day, she wore big bracelets, and dark clothing, when usually she was a happy girl.

Another few days later (I think), she came and one of her bracelets slipped off. I looked at her wrist, and pretty much, she cut. I never thought she would do this. Calling people sluts is funny? I don't think so. Because of that, my best friend's life was ruined. It impacted her whole life, and even the way she thought of things.

I was once depressed, but for a petty reason. She was depressed for shaming. Wow. Is this what society is? Probably so. I thank Emily for letting me share my story. Thanks.~Megan~
