You know what? It's time to start with the Prinxiety love. Maybe I should give this ship another chance and see if it works for me. They're both adorkable so... why not right?
STORYTIME!
Roman loved to over exaggerate everything, make everything filled with drama, and build a backstory upon everything. He even had two characters in a story that were supposed to represent him and Virgil. Yes, he was writing a fantasy romance novel to express his feelings without actually expressing his feelings. Yes, the amazing and beauitful and talented and gorgeous Roman was awkward and a bit antisocial towards his crush. What would you expect if you had a crush on your polar opposite!?
So the characters are the Shadow Prince and King of the Sun, just like the title of the oneshot states. The shadow prince is a nyctophilic anxious emo nightmare who has a sweet side to him. He puts on this front of being mean and nasty only to hide the good of him, which people in his domain do not like. The King of the Sun is the flawless, perfect, exact replica of Roman. He tries to bring the shadow prince into the light several times, trying to teach him that it's okay to be who he is and falling deeper and deeper in love with him. Also he's Xanthophilic. Duh, the SUN. YELLOW. Thank you captain obvious.
Roman adored drawing these two, pretending to be the King of the Sun while having a hologram like holopearl stand in and Be the Shadow Prince. He loves to write stories and songs and dreams of the day where he can actually dance with Virgil, hold him, and kiss him just like these characters in his head get to all the time. Roman is 100% smitten for Virgil. Pull out the ukulele and Dodie Clark lyrics, because woooooooooooah he's starstruck.
Do you wanna know a secret, Reader? Virgil knows all about Roman's little game. He just never brought himself to reveal his own conflicted feelings of romance for the narcissist, dreamy prince. Instead Virgil would sit outside his door and listen to whatever scene he played, whatever song he wrote, and whatever words he would say to the holographic version of Virgil. He just was too awkward and anxious to go in there and maybe just get to experience that for himself.
Virgil had asked Logan and Patton for advice, since they're an item and all, and they both said the same thing: to go in there and go for it. Virgil didn't listen, even though they were right. It's that very thing that brought him outside of Roman's room today. This time he brought his ukulele and sketchbook. He wanted to write things down, he wanted to learn how to play the love songs, and he wanted to feel like he was the Shadow Prince that Roman doted on so very much. However, even after fifteen minutes, the other side of the wall remained silent.
On the other side of the wall, the King of the Sun sat alone on his bed. No hologram, no storyline, no songs. He just sat in silence as he contemplating what the heck he was doing. Here he was, being a child. Here he was acting like a kid with a crush when he should approach how he is feeling like the adult he is. He needs to stop pretending. He either needs to get over this, or address it with Virgil. He knows that Virgil doesn't like him, he barely manages to earn his friendship. How could someone like Virgil be with someone like Roman... yeah?
Virgil was starting to get concerned. He hid all his things under his hoodie outside the door and decided to knock. Sure, he was wearing a Mystict Messenger shirt of his favorite guy (Saeran, duh) that was wrinkled but it didn't really matter. Virgil held his breath, deciding what to do. He really should knock and check up on him, but he doesn't want to interrupt him just in case he's writing something or doing something he probably shouldn't intrude on. Virgil decided to knock.
"Yo, Roman. It's awfully quiet in there. Everything okay?"
Roman flinched when he heard his beloved's voice call through the door. He didn't need explanation why he couldn't hear through the walls. Walls are pretty thin and normally you can hear voices and noises, but it's white noise in a sense where you can never figure out what people are saying. It gets that way when Logan and Deceit do debates and when Patton decides that he wants to do karaoke despite being the only side who can't sing. How ironic, yeah? Either way, Roman stared at the door. What should he say? What should he do? Should he invite Virgil in and be honest about his insecurity? Or say he's fine and live to torture his own desires another day.
"Oh, uh, yes. Yes it is Virgil. I'm just trying to work on ideas for out next script. We can't keep our lovely Famders waiting~"
Ah, so that's it. He's working on other things. Of course. Disappointedly, Virgil was about to to gather his things and leave. But that's exactly when Deceit decided to make a sudden appearance, thoughtfully having his hand on his chin with a finger over his lips, curling into a frown along with them. What does he want? Virgil waited at him to say something because apparently his appearance wasn't enough for Virgil to get the hint. Go figure. Welcome to fanfiction! Everyone is dense as a rock!
"I smell a lie. You should go in and find the truth, Virgil. Not every lie hides something nasty."
With that, Deceit chuckled in his suave velvety voice beforehand disappearing. In the place of Deceit, he had dropped a bouquet of red roses. Virgil picked them up and read the card. It said: Stop being an idiot and tell the goof you love him already. Virgil's entire face went red as he ripped the card off the bouquet, crumbled it up, and shoved it in his skinny jeans pocket. The pockets were extremely small because it's women's jeans. They fit his legs better and he liked how tight they were. Also they were ripped and black and cool.... like Saeran.
Virgil turned back to the door with the flowers In hand. His arms felt bare from not wearing his hoodie for the first time in... probably his entire life and he felt like he couldn't use enough white foundation to hide the blush on his cheeks. He didn't knock, like Deceit har instructed him to. He said to go and find the truth and that is what he was going to do. Virgil entered the room with the roses in hand and saw Roman sitting on his bed, face in his hands and fingers in his hair. Virgil almost dropped the roses in shock. Was he okay? Normally nothing except utter heartbreak would get him like this. ....what happened?
"Roman, what happened? Normally you're perkier than this. Do I need to kill someone because I'll be happy to do it."
Virgil conjured a case for the roses, setting him on his working desk as he spoke. Then he conjured a handgun. He was ready to destroy whatever monster had conquered him in the Imagination or shoot any problems he had away like dreams of a past lover Thomas had that resurfaced. Virgil was full on mamabear mode, acting a lot like Logan would in this situation except more trigger happy. Roman looked up at him, a deep sorrow in his eyes. Virgil didn't know, but something about that plea for whatever made him drop his weapon.
"Aha... uh... hello Virgil. I just, please leave. I don't want you of all people to see me like this."
Shame was overriding every ounce of common sense and his own personality in his body. Roman quickly rubbed his face of any blush or tears on it, wiping it away to prove to the love of his life that he was perfectly fine. Spoiler alert: he wasn't. Roman didn't notice the flowers, he just watched Virgil sigh and sit down next to Roman, fighting the urge to wrap his arm comfortingly around the prince.
"Ro, shut up and tell me what's really bothering you. I've spent enough time with Dee to be able to sniff out a lie and I know he'd probably show up if you say another one. Wouldnyou rather say whatever it is yourself or have someone else say it for you?"
Roman's face went white and his blood went cold. He had forgotten Deceit could do that. But would Deceit really go as far to tell Virgil his insecurities and his love for him? Roman didn't doubt it. Roman then noticed the roses, a card with Golden writing on it. It read: Stop being an idiot and tell the goof you love him already. Huh, must have been Deceit. He's probably trying to get his OTP together. Besides, saying it would help him finally get it off his chest. Then... then... uh... Roman didn't know.
"I love you, Virgil."
Virgil jumped when he heard that, whipping his face to look over at Roman. Whaddya know? Anxiety spike right on time! Roman looked up at him, grabbing his hands and holding them in his own. Out of nowhere there was a dimming Of the lights with ray of sunshine coming through a window that wasn't there before. Magic. The light hit Roman, shining his eyes and makimg his hair golden brown like a carmalized pastry. Virgil felt himself breathing faster.
"I love you so much it hurts, and I know there's no way in a million years that you'd love someone like me but... I love you."
Virgil searched his eyes for everything. He wasn't lying, or at least he prayed to whatever god he believes in that he wasn't. Just gotta pick a god a pray that this was all reality. Virgil watched him bow his head and felt his grip slip. No. He doesn't want Roman to cry or feel hopeless like he had. Roman doesn't deserve that. He's a mighty prince who can conquer anything, so this sadness will be one. And guess what? That story ends up with the guy getting the other guy in the end. Virgil gripped onto his hands, causing him to gasp and look back up at him. Virgil sucked it up and said the sentence that would start the best part of his life.
"I love you too, Roman."
Suddenly, FIREWORKS!!! Virgil jumped like a cat, latching onto the goddamn ceiling and he looked around for the cause of the fireworks. Roman laughed heartily as Virgil hissed, hanging onto the ceiling for dear life. Deceit, Logan, and Patton all stood in the doorway applauding them finally getting the guts to confess to eachother. And by association...The Shadow Prince and the King of the Sun lived happily ever after. Literally. Roman wrote a happily ever after story for the two characters, just as Roman and Virgil were going to live happily ever after Together.
