STORYTIME!
The school talent show was coming up and everyone wanted to know what Roman as doing. Gossip floated around the school excitedly to see what everyone's favorite guy wanted to do. Some said he was singing a song with his acoustic guitar, trying to serenade his audience. Others said it's going to be a very in depth monologue. Some say he's going to do a comedy skit to see all the beautiful smiles of everyone in the crowd. Others said he's going to do a broadway number to combine all of the above. Do you want to know the reality? Roman didn't even know what he was doing. He was actually thinking of something last minute to do in the middle of Science Class. The teacher didn't even teach anyways. He basically had an hour and twenty minutes of free time.
Spitballing ideas on a paper of a million different things he can perform, Roman tapped his bottom lip with the tip of his pencil. Roman sighes, having too many ideas for his brain to handle. The absent noise of the teacher showing some animated documentary nobody enjoyed, not even the nerds, was drowned out at this point. Roman's he's began wandering and he turned a around to look at his favorite nerd. Logan, the kid nobody knows because he's way too quiet, sat in the back of the classroom. He had birthmarks and freckles all over his arms for some reason and was super interested in space. Roman thought he was cute. He wanted to get to know more about him. You know those shallow crushes where you create an entire persona in your mind and fall in love with them? That's the kind of crush Roman has. And he wants to fix it and get to know the real Logan.
That sparked an idea in Roman's mind for the talent show. He's seen countless movies and television shows with this big cliché moment where the main character gets a song written about them and it's revealed to be about them and the singer and main character get together. Maybe he can use the talent show to get Logan to go on a date with him? Looking at his arms and how tanned he was, Roman already made a plan to go to the beach. One of the wonderful things about Florida: infinite access to beaches. Roman flipped the paper over and scribbled down the words Freckles and Constellations before shoving the paper in his pocket. He rose his hand and the teacher nodded at him.
"Excuse me, Director Torres-Rosario And Director Williams asked for me at the last thirty minutes of class."
The teacher grunted, giving him the permission to leave. Roman grinned and looked back at Logan. He didn't break his eyes away from the book he was reading. As Roman walked by to get to the door he caught a glimpse of the cover. What was Logan doing reading a dystopian romance novel like Matched? Roman looked to see what page he was on, since he enjoyed the book by Ally Condie, and Logan looked up once he saw Roman was looking over his shoulder. Instead of being embarrassed and shrinking away, Roman decided to try and make a positive interaction with Logan, like he always tries to.
"That's a really good book. Three part series. I have a feeling that you're going to end up prefering Xander over Ky."
He just started the novel, but he already was introduced to who Ky and Xander were. He aleready made it past the matching party. Logan nodded, taking in the information. He doesn't smile much, does he? Well then, Roman will just have to change that. Roman, with a new Pep in his step, walked out of the classroom and put his back to the wall. He took out his phone and opened his best friend's contact. He and Virgil had been best friends after middle school, where they hated eachother to no end. They put it beside them in seventh grade so they can be best buds. He shot Virge a text.
Roman: Hey, let's ditch class. I have something we can do that's way better anyways.
Roman looked up, glancing around to make sure nobody was suspicious. Maybe he should just go and hide in the bathrooms while he waits? That would probably be a good idea, but since when does Roman do the smart thing? He felt his phone vibrate in his hand, meaning Virgil texted him back.
Virgil: So the big guy finally got an idea on what to do, huh? Don't tell me, you want me to play ukulele with you on stage? You're singing a song by Dodie Clark?
Wow, Virgil knew him so well. Roman simply sent back an emoji that looks a little bit like this 😜 and waited for Virgil to reply. It showed that he was typing. Let's see... fifth period on a red day. Where was Virgil? Oh yeah, he's going to be in history going to matching band. He hates matching Band so getting him out of there would probably be doing him some good. Roman looked back through the window on the classroom door. Logan still had his nose buried in that book. It was so cute. Roman felt his heart twirl around when Logan looked up to notice him. Instead of just looking down, Logan shot him a peace sign. Roman snirked at how dorky it was and shot him one back. It's like waving, but with peace signs. That's gay culture right there.
Virgil: I'm going to get out of history. Meet up at my house. My Moms would love to see you again and would probably give them an excuse to cook something good for dinner. And yes, before you ask, I am using you to get good food.
Roman snickered and just sent back another two emojis that looked like this: 👍👌. Virgil was probably groaning out loud in class because of it and the best part is that Roman could already hear it. Roman walked out one of the side doors near the science classroom and began walking towards the parking lot. Once he got to his car he started it up and started driving over to Virgil's place. Knowing Virgil's sorcery, he'd somehow make it there before him. Roman swore he was teleporting, but Virgil always said he had a shortcut. What kind of Sans the Skeleton BS was this? Sure enough, when he pulled up to the house, Virgil's car was in the driveway. Huh, and so was his older brother; Dee's. Looks like he's home from college. Roman parked his car on the side of the street in front of the house and took his keys. He locked it up, leaving his school bag in there. Before he could knock on the door, one of Virgil's moms threw it open and gave Roman giant hug.
"Roman! How awesome it is to see you again! Why don't you visit more often young man? I missed ya! So, are you and Virgil gonna talk about boys? I'm so in on the gossip~!"
Roman just laughed it off, trying not to be awkward. The other mom yelled at her from somehwere else in the house:
"Marci you're only gonna scare him off! Get back in here and help me cook!"
The ravenstte woman scoffed and rolled her eyes, shooting a wink and walking back into the house to help Bonnie, Virgil's other mom, with the meal. Roman let himself in and tokk off his shoes, leaving his mint colored cat socks on. He closed the door and headed up the stairs, knowing exactly where Virgil is. He's probably tuning his ukulele to get to work. Virgil had to learn the song too if he's going to play it. Things take teamwork, ya'know. Roman knocked on Virgil's bedroom door to be polite, making sure it's not too loud to wake the college snake from his nest. Virgil, however, had no regards to that when yelling at Roman to go in.
"GET IN, PREP!"
Roman snickered and opened the door. Virgil was wearing his jacket tied around his wasit like a belt, sitting on the floor with his ukulele in hand. Just like Roman predicated, he was strumming the chords in a perfect tune. He was wearing nothing but a black tank top and some loose navy blue basketball shorts. Screw matching colors! He didn't spend too long in the closet so he didn't have much of a fashion sense. Unlike Roman who still hasn't told his dad he's hella Bi. Oh yeah. In case you're wondering Virgil is Asexual and Polyromantic. He's not panromantic because there's a few gender identities he has a preference against. Not to be discriminatory, he accepts them, he just wouldn't date them because he doesn't want to risk not understanding fully and hurting the other person. Virgil smiled clumsily once he got s general melody going. He looked up at Roman.
"So, what Dodie song did ya pick? Knowing you it's going to be a super cute upbeat one. I'm still working on learning how to play fast, so don't make it too hard on me."
Roman took out the paper from his pocket, uncrumpled it, and looked at the title of the song. Freckles and Constellations are two words that perfectly describe Logan's freckled arms and astrophilia. Yes, Roman knows big words too. Shocking, I know. Roman showed the Paper to Virgil, handing it to him and grinning.
"Freckles and Constellations. It's such a lovely song, yeah? I just need to drop the notes down to my vocal range and we're golden."
Virgil nodded, sliding his MacBook over and googling both the song and the sheet music. Was there any sheet music for Freckles and Constellations on the Internet? Just to make life easier on Virgil, there's a free PDF of the sheet music he can print off of as the third search result. Virgil stood up and went downstairs to go grab the ukulele sheet music. It looked like he also googled a ukulele how to play tutorial. Again, added into this universe's reality. The author didn't double check to make sure these things exist for this song. Even if it doesn't, it totally should because the song is so good. If you haven't already, take a moment to listen to it. It's linked up above the story. Listened to it? Good. Now we can get back to the middle of the story.
"Coolio. So I just gotta learn this real fast. That means you're kicked out for a solid half hour."
Roman rolled his eyes. He knew how Virgil got with his privacy when learning something new. Roman turned around and left the room, closing the door. He took out his phone and googled the lyrics of the song. He loved this song. Everything by Dodie Clark was a win. Roman switched to Instagram and noticed that Logan's page was still up and center. Yes, he's an anonymous internet stalker. Who isn't of their crush during Highschool? He liked all his new aesthetic pictures and cool selfies he takes with nature. He's one of those coffee shop and cool trees kind of guys. Good reference when he finally would have the balls to ask him on a date. Roman smiled at his phone when Bonnibelle, Virgil's other mom, made her way up the stairs.
"He kicked you out again, didn't he? Marci does the same thing with her base. He totes inherited from her. Woah, someone's a happy camper. Who's the big man got a crush on this time?"
Roman's been over here too much. Bonnibelle And Marciline are just like his moms and Virgil is like the snarky little brother. Since Roman doesn't have his parents to gush about with his crushes, he showed her his favorite selfie of Logan on his Instagram. It was him sitting in a coffee shop with some latte art, sipping it with a boikshelf placed convienantly behind him. The sunlight caught in his glasses, lighting up his face from the left side. Logan was an absolutely gorgeous man. Roman desperately wanted to be a part of his life. Bonnie clearly approved.
"Looks good. I'd give you more than that if I liked men at all. Dinner will be ready in maybe an hour? Good luck with whatever, Ro."
Like that, she retreated downstairs and instantly got engaged with her wife again. Roman wanted an everlasting relationship like theirs. It was so perfect and cute. Maybe he and Logan our day have that. He looked down st his phone and put it in sleep mode on vibrate. Virge will text him when he's ready. For now he's just going to lock himself in the bathroom and start singing. That always helps to warm up his voice and get everything ready to go. Roman looked the door behind him and looked himself in the mirror. What was the use of looking up the lyrics? He memorized them anyways. He took a deep breath and stsrted his own rehearsing.

The curtain went down and the host went up on stage. The crowd was huge. It was almost like everyone in Highschool and their parents cramped in the auditorium to watch the talent show. Virgil and Roman were saved for last, obviously. Roman had his voice warm and Virgil ask answntly plucking at the strings of hus ukulele. Roman had everything for tonight planned. He even had a seat in the front row, dead center reserved for Logan. Hopefully he didn't find anything too suspicious. With their cue word, Virgil pulled up a stool and sat down. Roman's stood in front of the mic. Two best friends about to perform in front of the entire school, and they were loving it.
The curtain went up and the first thing Roman looked for was Logan. He was in position, curiously peering at the two of them. Shrieks of fangirls, fanboys, and fans in general erupted from the crowd. Roman forgot he had so many secret admirers. Sorry people, but Roman had his eyes on the prize. Roman began tapping his foot, giving a beat to Virgil. Virgil stsrted strumming, getting the instrumentals. Getting a surprano to a male Alto took work, but the boys managed to do it well.
"🎶Freckles, and constellations. All those cute conversations. The moon is bright, giving us light. I really wanna kiss you and I think I might. Filling up our imaginations.🎶"
Roman's never broke eye contact from Logan, not feeling a single nerve in his body, he was relaxing. He was havin a good time, having a great time. He waited for Logan to smile. He wasn't. That's okay. He still has an entire rest of the song. That was only the first verse. He flicked a gaze over at Virgil, who nodded. He stood up and began following Roman as he made his descent off the stage. Gasps and shrieks all around.
"🎶Starry eyes and galaxy minds. We'll be dancing on the clouds tonight. I'll be yours to keep just take a leap. Cause this spaceship has a passenger seat.🎶"
They started from the left and stsrted walking around the house of the auditorium. Roman shook hands and high fived people as they passed by, Virgil sending winks and head nods to other people. Both of them felt like movie stars. Now here comes the most fun part: the chorus. Virgil started getting into it'll, dancing as he stepped around.
"🎶Woah oh oh, I'm star struck! Woah oh oh, no gravity for us! We're intergalactic, with thoughts full of static! Woah oh oh, I'm star struck, for you~🎶"
They're at the back of the house. Right where Bonnibelle and Marciline are. Roman twirled Bonnie around, making Marci pout her cheeks out. Man, were they lucky that they wore microphone headsets like those professional musicians and actors. You know, this fanfiction is getting long enough. Let's skip through the song, shall we? With another nod from both of them, the boys ran down the middle aisle to where Logan was. Roman extended his hand to Logan, controlling his breath masterfully.
"🎶Woah oh oh, I'm star struck! Woah oh oh, no gravity for us! We're intergalactic, with thoughts full of static! Woah oh oh, I'm star struck, for you~🎶"
Logan reluctantly took his hand. Yes! Virgil got the gist and took a step back, completely doing a 180 From the upbeat song. Roman dragged Logan, this nobody in the school's eyes, up to the stage. Roman was lucky Virgil agreed to do this. Virgil stsrted plucking the ukulele, sitting back down on his stool. The lights completely changed to deep blue and purple. Roman twirled Logan around, just like in his dreams. He was clearly about to protest, but Toman cut him off with singing a completely new song verse.
"🎶'Cause I've been thinking 'bout you lately. Maybe you can save me from this crazy world we live in. And I know we can happen, 'Cause I've been feeling you. Baby I want you.🎶"
Logan was sputtering, trying to find some sort of words to Say. Words fail. Why speak when you can dance? Roman chuckled and flashed a peace sign to Virgil, he sent a signal backstage and the lights changed to green. Roman dragged Logan further back towards the curtains. He pulled out a bouquet of flowers and presented them to Logan. Virgil changed the tempo and song yet again. This must be so crazy to Logan, huh? Roman didn't care! This was so fun and the best way to flashily profess his love to his favorite nerd in shining specs!
"🎶Taaaaaake myyyyyyyy haaaaand. Take my whoooooooole liiiiiiiiiife tooooooooooo. 'Cause IIIIIIIIIIIIIII Caaaaaaaan't heeeelp falling in looooooooooooooooove wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiith yoooooooooooooooooooou~🎶"
When Roman bent down on one knee and Virgil threw his hand off the strings, cheers, cries, and applause roared from the audience. Logan.exe had stopped working. Microsoft had crashed. Everything was awful. Virgil began shushing everyone down. This wasn't done yet. No sir, ma'am, or non binary with a plan! Roman cleared his throat and took Logan's hand, forcing him to look in his eyes. The curious glint in his eyes made him fall even deeper in love.
"Logan, would you make me the happiest highschoolwr and go on a date with me?"
Chants of the crowd were telling him to say yes. His face went completely red to directly oppose the green. Logan looked out at everyone and fiddled with his glasses. He fixed his tie and cleared his throat. He opened his mouth, but everyone was too loud Roman couldn't hear. He frowned. Virgil, the most ultimate wingman ever, knew the struggle and shouted so loud in the microphone that it would have made someone go deaf. But this is fanfiction so nobody was harmed in the writing of this story.
"EVERYBODY SHUT UP HE'S ABOUT TO GET HIS MAN!!!"
Everybody quickly shut up except this one tiny infant girl who asked her mommy "if he says yes, can I get a girlfriend" and that was the cutest lesbian thing anyone has ever saw. Everything hushed down and Roman looked hopefully at Logan. This whole moment was intense and cliché and he was loving it. He only hoped that Logan loved it too. Logan was breathing calm. He looked around once more, then at the flowers tucked in his arms. For the first time ever, Roman got to see the most gorgeous smile adorn Logan's face.
"Yes, I will accompany you on a date."
