el's pov-
"mike, are you taking Finn to school?" (their son), i asked, setting pancakes on the plate.
"i thought you were." he gave a confused look, making me groan in frustration.
"mike i told you i have a meeting"—
"babe, chill i was just joking." he cut me off, chuckling, as i sighed, rolling my eyes.
"lighten up." he kissed my cheek, grabbing his coffee, making me nod slowly.
Finn ran in the kitchen with his lunchbox in his hand smiling widely. "today's the field trip!" he jumped up & down excitedly, making me smile.
"sure is, & you're gonna be late if you don't hurry up & eat your breakfast." i teased, as he widened his eyes, running to the table.
"the pancakes are really good." mike said, w/ his mouth full of pancakes.
"yeah!" finn agreed, w/ his mouth full as well.
"you hooligans are gonna drive me crazy." i laughed, handing them both a napkin, as they smiled, wiping their mouths.
"thanks mommy!" finn smiled, making me chuckle lightly.
ten minutes later
mikes POV-
"alright kiddo, time to go." i put on my jacket, since it was freezing outside.
"mommy this jacket looks stupid on me." finn whined, making me chuckle.
"it does not! it keeps you warm." el crossed her arms.
"but it's big!"
"finn the jacket looks just fine, come on." i chuckled, opening the door, as he nodded, running to the car.
"i'll see you at five." i kissed el lightly on the lips, as she smiled, fixing my tie.
"be careful, the roads are slippery from the ice. i love you." she smiled lightly, as i nodded, giving her a hug.
"i love you more." i winked, walking out the door.
i made sure finns car seat was tight, before i got in the car, turning on the heater.
twenty minutes later
"daddy are we almost there?" finn asked, looking out the window.
"yeah, we have to go slow though because of the ice." i informed him, making him nod.
"can you play kids bop?" he asked excitedly, as i chuckled, nodding my head.
he cheered happily, as i turned on the music, chuckling.
he started singing along, as i chuckled, shaking my head. i saw a text from my boss, as i picked up my phone, reading it.
work- work is cancelled, the roads are too dangerous.
"daddy watch out!" i looked up hurriedly, setting my phone down, seeing a car speeding towards the side of mine, as i gasped, feeling a crash...

els POV- 15 min later
i got an email from Mikes work saying his work is cancelled, as i furrowed my eyebrows, callingthe school.
"hello?"
"hey nancy, is finn at school?"
"no we just sent an email out saying it's cancelled, why?"
"oh, im not sure"—
i got cut off by a phone call, as i furrowed my eyebrows, not recognizing the number.
"nancy i'll call you back in a second." i ended the call, answering the other.
"hello?"
"is this El Wheeler?"
"who's asking?"
"this is the police, your husband & son have been in a wreck off of highway 80." i widened my eyes, staying quiet.
"hello?"
i ended the call, quickly putting on my jacket, running out the door.
ten minutes later
i got out of the car, seeing caution signs, as i ran over there. "mam you cant be here." a cop said, stopping me.
"no that's my husband & my son!"
she nodded, letting me through, as i widened my eyes, seeing the car crashed on its side, flipped over, as i saw them being carried away it stretcher.
tears filled in my eyes, as i covered my mouth in shock.

thirty minutes later
i rushed in the hospital, running up to the front desk.
"hi i'm looking for mike & finn wheeler." i breathed heavily in panic.
"mike's in room 353, finn is still in surgery i'm sorry you can't see him right now." she frowned, as i nodded, running to the elevator.
two minutes later
i rushed in the room, seeing Mike laying down, as i sighed a breath of relief, rushing over to him.
"are you okay? are you hurt?" i asked, seeing his head wrapped.
"i'm okay." he sat up, wincing in pain. "the impact didn't affect me as much." he mumbled, making me nod slowly.
"w-what about finn?" i asked, as my heart dropped.
"el i'm so sorry, the car hit his side, i wasn't looking"—
"mike don't blame it on yourself." i grabbed his hand, as he nodded, giving me a hug.
"i'm sorry." he cried, as i cried in his shoulder, hugging him tightly.
"he's gonna be okay." i pulled away, wiping his tears w/ my thumb, as he nodded, looking down.
"where is he?"
"he's in surgery right now." i gave a sad look, as he nodded, sighing.
he grabbed my hands, kissing them softly, as i sighed, hugging him again.
"thank god i didn't lose you." i sighed, as he ran his fingers through my hair.
i heard a machine flat lining from a few doors down, as i gasped, seeing nurses rush around. i ran out of the room, seeing them rush into finns room, as i gasped, crying.
