You jolted awake when you heard a shrill scream coming from your daughter’s bedroom. Niall must have heard it too, because the second your eyes flew open, Niall was already on his feet. He hurried out of the room, and you followed after him. Niall burst into your daughter’s room, flicking the light switch on to see her curled up in her bed, sobbing as she clutched her favorite stuffed animal.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?” You asked, rubbing the sleep from your eyes.
“I had a scary dream,” She whispered, sniffling. You frowned and sat on the edge of her bed, reaching over to wipe the tears from her face. Niall stood in the doorway, leaning against the doorframe as he tried to keep himself awake.
“Do you want to talk about it?” You asked, and when she didn’t respond, you added, “You know, it was just a nightmare. You’re safe, you’re okay, and me and daddy are right here for you. You know daddy would fight off any bad guy for you. Right, Niall?”
Niall’s head snapped up and he smiled at you and your daughter. “You bet,” He nodded, sticking out his arms and flexing his muscles. “If anyone wanted to get to either of my princesses, they’d have to get through me first.”
You raised your eyebrows and your daughter giggled as Niall threw punches into the air and pulled a couple karate moves, complete with sound effects. He winked at your daughter and she continued to laugh until she was interrupted by her own yawn.
“Alright, girlie, time to get back to sleep,” You told her, standing to tuck the blanket in around her as her head fell onto her pillow. You pecked her forehead and said, “There, now you’ll have nothing but good dreams for the rest of the night.”
She sleepily smiled at you and after Niall blew her a kiss, you and Niall retreated back to your own bedroom with your fingers intertwined. Any sleepiness that Niall might have felt before seemed to have been shed from him. Once you were back in your bedroom, Niall twirled you in a circle before pulling you into him. He brushed his nose over yours and gave you a gentle kiss, humming against your lips.
“Your ninja kicks are very impressive,” You said to him with a giggle.
“You think so?” He mumbled, before pressing his lips to yours again.
Niall collapsed beside you on the bed and kissed the side of your face. You pecked his lips one more time, but when you tried to pull away, Niall held you there. He placed his hands on either side of your face and swiped his tongue across your bottom lip just before you heard your daughter’s small voice.
“Mommy?” She squeaked, and you lifted your head to see her standing in the doorway.
“Hey,” You weakly smiled at her and she walked further into your room, with her stuffed animal in her hands.
“Can I sleep with you and Daddy?” She asked.
You and Niall exchanged glances, and he moved over to clear a spot for your daughter.
