You were friends with the boys and you loved them to pieces, but they could still be idiots sometimes. This was one of those times. You should have known there would be trouble, considering you were the only girl among a group of five immature guys.

You felt tears tugging at your eyes as you sprung to your feet and headed for the door, making sure to slam it after you. They all decided to meet at Niall’s apartment, and though it was a lovely place, you didn’t know your way around it very well yet. You crossed your arms over your chest and walked with angry but strong steps down the hallway until you found the front doors of the apartment building. You pushed through them and hurried down the steps, following the sidewalk wherever it would take you. He lived in the city, and on a somewhat busy street, yet you didn’t fear being caught by paparazzi. They would have no reason to recognize you. You were hardly ever out in public with the boys, so if anyone did recognize you, it would only be from tweets or pictures that the guys had taken of you. You never really met any of their fans in person before, and you were certain that a good portion of them didn’t even know you existed. You liked it that way, though. You could still enjoy all the benefits of being friends with the boys without the stress of fans and paparazzi.

It was an overcast day, as it usually was in the part of the world that Niall lived in. But there was no rain and you were thankful for that. There was just a slight chill in the air; enough to refresh you, but not enough to need a heavy jacket. Niall’s apartment was located in an upbeat and exciting part of the city—just perfect for him. There were a lot of local people that either lived around the area or had a small business there, and Niall was the type of person that would want to get to know every one of those people. He had a pretty large network in his area, so much so that he almost always waved and said a ‘hello’ to someone he recognized every time he left his apartment. Like Niall, you enjoyed wandering around his neighborhood on foot. It was midday and just about the right time for people to be out walking their dogs or stopping for lunch. You felt as if you fit right in and didn’t even look questionable for walking down a busy street by yourself.

Though you weren’t very familiar with the neighborhood, you did know about a little diner that Niall had taken you to once. It was only down the street and then around the corner from Niall’s apartment, so you guided yourself in that direction. You didn’t have any money with you, so you weren’t planning to eat there; you just wanted to go in and maybe have a talk with the owner. Niall was friendly with the owner and he had introduced you to him when you were there. You even remembered the guy’s first name—it was Sebastian.

The bell that hung on the door sang as you walked in. It was a cozy little place, complete with wood flooring and the smell of coffee. You found a seat at the empty counter and waited for someone to come to you. Meanwhile, you glanced around and exchanged friendly smiles with the people that sat at the tables around you. Your attention was stolen when you heard someone clear their throat and say, “Well, look who’s here!”

You beamed as Sebastian leaned over the counter and said, “It’s Niall’s lovely little lady. Pleasure to see you again, doll.”

You shyly glanced down at your lap before telling him, “Well, me and Niall are just friends, but it’s nice to see you too, Sebastian.”

“Are you sure about that one?” Sebastian asked with a chuckle. There was a mug of coffee sitting on the counter beside him, and he picked it up and brought it to his lips. He furrowed his eyebrows as he sipped from the cup and set it back down on the counter while saying, “I think he’s got a little thing for you, if you ask me. Every time he pops in here by himself, he’s always talking about you.”
