"Aaaannndddd..." Carter said excitedly from the kitchen.
"Carter I already know it's pancakes! I can smell them!" I called out to him, already over this whole surprise breakfast Carter suggested.
"Done! Come in here babe!" He called out.
Despite my best efforts I still smiled at his nickname. It made it seem like we were together.
But you're not!
An annoying inner voice yelled at me. I rolled my eyes at nothing.
"Here ya go M'lady." He said dropping a plate of pancakes on the table in front of me.
I scanned them and noticed nothing special about them. They looked like any normal pancakes. Except they were really fluffy!
"Thanks Carter." I said with a smile as he sat down with his own plate.
"Here." He handed me the butter and syrup.
"Ready?" He asked, proposing we try the pancakes at the same time.
I nodded.
"One..." he started.
"Two..."
"Th-"
"Three!" I beat him to the chase and took a big bite of my pancakes.
He chuckled and shook his head, then took a bite of his own.
I swear if I were in an anime I would have stars in my eyes.
I quickly looked down at the fluffy pancakes and saw rainbow colors decorating the inside.
My eyes snapped up to Carter. He was just smiling at me with a small, soft smile.
"What-"
"Skittles." He cut me off.
It was all he needed to say.
"Skittle pancakes! I knew these would taste good!" I exclaimed taking another huge bite of my pancakes.
He chuckled and shook his head, continuing to eat his own.

"Thank you for the breakfast." I said happily, though wishing I had more.
He nodded with an adorable boyish grin "Yeah! I'm glad you liked them!"
I nodded with a huge grin.
He glanced down at his watch after a beat of silence.
"Oh! Its 9:30! I better get going! We are already late for work but I need to go home and get changed." He said while gesturing towards the door.
I nodded with realization "You're right! We do have work today!"
That's what I said.
What I was thinking was:
"No please stay!"
And
"Fucking work!"
He nodded "Yeah. It's ridiculous but we do."
I nodded again and started toward the door "Well I had a fantastic time. Besides the horror movie." I said with a pout.
"I hate horror movies."
He chuckled and nodded "I could tell. But what came of the horror movie is enough for me to play one every night."
I blushed and looked down, hiding my face with my hair.
I heard him chuckle and soon enough he gently made me look up at him.
"I had a great time Amber."
I couldn't say or do anything besides smile.
"Maybe..." he seemed to get nervous for some reason.
After a beat of silence he continue. "Maybe we could go ou-" but he couldn't finish his thought because he was cut off by a blaring ringtone.
He cursed under his breath and pulled out his phone.
"Damn it's my dad." He hit the ignore button and looked back at me.
"I have to go babe. But I'll see you at work." He said with a smile and kissed me quickly on the lips.
Then, with a last goodbye, he rushed out the door.
I stood there dazed.
Even with such a short kiss my brain could only process my tingling lips.
