T'Challa didn't really like any of the girls he's come across in a romantic way. He knows that there are nicer girls out there, but he never really got to meet any that he's liked. So when he met Y/N, it was a surprise that she was the opposite of the type that he would fall for.
Stubborn, blunt and sarcastic, she wasn't the ideal type that any guy would really like.
And maybe that's what drew him closer.
It just wasn't expected. His whole life was a schedule, so when one disturbance comes along, he was curious.
But she gave him not a time of the day, seeing him as her enemy. They were both going to lead the army of Wakanda, her being the daughter of a high-ranking general.
It was natural for them to be together, seeing that their fathers were best friends.
"Y/N." He called, jogging up to her in the long elegant hallway of the palace. "Wait up."
She ignored him, continuing to walk. T'Challa took the moment to admire her hair in her ponytail and how it sway just a little to her pace. She wore black flexible tights and a white tank top under her f/c hoodie.
"Are you heading off to train?" He asked when he caught up.
"Yes." She said curtly, not meeting his eyes as she continued walking.
"Cool, I was going to come with." He smiled.
She glanced down at the blue water bottle in his hand. "I can see." Her tone was bored and it never changed.
"What are you going to work on first?" He asked, pressing on the conversation. They almost arrived at the gym.
"Finding a way to kick your ass." She grunted as she open the door to the gym.
T'Challa beamed, not even fazed. "Fun."
She just nodded, walking the opposite way of where he was facing. He followed her.
She grumbled some curse words as she picked up some weights.
"You know the party that is tonight?" He asked.
"No, I've been in dress fitting for the past hours for nothing." She retorted, then sighing. "Listen, can you just piss off today? I'm not in a good mood."
"You're never in a good mood." He noted.
"You wanna die?" She threatened, holding up a 20 lbs. weight.
"Why are you in a bad mood?" He asked, ignoring her daily threat. "Did the seamstress mess up your measurements?"
"She's making me wear white." She grumbled. "I know I'm going to spill something all over that."
He grinned, "Don't worry, I'll be there to catch your drink when you spill."
"Knowing you, you would laugh and walk away." She scowled. "Mind your own business and work out somewhere else. It's a big gym."
He ignored her comment and began working out next to her as she sighed and ignored him.

The party was more of a ball. He just thought his parents used that word to make them seem more humble.
There was a itch on his left thigh of his pants from the suit. He dust off some nonexistent dust on his jacket before plastering a polite smile on his face.
His eyes scanned the large room for Y/N. He wanted to see her dress that she was complaining about.
When his eyes landed on her, his smile faltered a little.
She wore a revealing white dress. Her face was polite enough. The color of the dress represents purity but the cutouts on her sides of her waist and the revealing back made him want to glare at every person that looked at her.
Guys were turning their heads more and talking to her more than usual.
T'Challa weaved his way through the crowd and immediately appeared by her side.
Her smile turned into a irritated frown when she glanced up at him.
"I can't believe they let you go out like that." He said first, interrupting her.
"I can't believe I don't have a stain yet." She grumbled.
"That's way to revealing." He frowned.
She glanced down. "I don't think it's that bad."
"You look like a slut." He bluntly said.
Y/N glared at him. "And there's a problem with that? This is my body and I choose the way I want to dress."
"But you didn't choose." He pointed out.
She thought about it for a moment before frowning. "Oh right."
He rolled his eyes and grabbed her forearm, dragging him out of the room. She glared at him and to,d him to let go but he didn't.
"You caused a commotion!" Her face was red with embarrassment.
"You need to change, now." He frowned, walking away to her room.
"Oh god, Martha is going to kill me." She muttered as she jogged after him. "I can't just change! People are going to notice."
He stopped and turned around, making her bump into his chest. She looking up to glare at her but stopped and blushed, realizing that their faced were inches way from each other.
"I don't want to go to extremes." He warned.
She stared into his eyes and glared before muttering out a "Fine... Dick."
He choose out a simple baby blue dress from her closet. When she came out, she still look beautiful with the dress hugging her waist but not to exposing.
It seemed when they came back, they drew more attention as many people asked to dance with her. T'Challa didn't bother dancing with other girls as he waited to dance with Y/N, but seemed like ever time he tried she was already in the dance floor with someone new.
He gritted his teeth when he saw a guy's eyes linger too much on her chest when she looked away.
And when she was finally gone from the dance floor, he butted it.
"Excuse me, but can I have this dance?" The guy asked.
"She already promised a dance with me." T'Challa sent him a obvious fake smile, silently telling him to fuck off.
The guy swallowed, realizing that this was the prince of Wakanda and left.
She frowned. "Wait, I didn't-"
"The music so already starting." He interrupted, grabbing her to dance.
When he saw the guys dancing and her laughing, his heart felt a little squeeze. It hurt to see that she could laugh with them and never really laughed that much with him.
And especially when she remembered some of the guys from childhood, it hurt him that he realize that he wasn't special. And that the memories of her younger self wasn't just his.
And the worst part about it all is that she never realize what affect she had on him. And when he tried to make her see, she takes it the wrong way. It would take a long time for her to realize his feelings, he would wait, but it still hurt.
Love really is cruel.
