Chapter 1 : Her life

Thick, round-rimmed, non-prescription glasses, check. Hair neatly pinned and tied up in a low bun, check. Boring plain loose tee and baggy jeans, check. Slippers, check. I scanned myself once more in the mirror to be sure I am nerd-tastic plus a fashion disaster, and wow. I totally look like a dude! I almost couldn't recognize myself! Looks like my entire week of observation on nerds paid off! Oh uh.. I mean it wasn't like I was stalking them all week or anything....

"Perfect. Brea Kendra, today, you are so not going to screw up, you are going to maintain this cover for the entire last year of your high school life. Yes, you will." I told myself one last time smiling with determination in the mirror before I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs.

As I headed down, I tripped on a object lying at the base of the stairs -- probably a box. My heart gave a quick squeeze as I lunged forward, lucky for my fast reflexes, I executed a front flip and landed expertly. Blood was pounding in my ears and rushing to my head as I took a slow deep breath.

"Wow! That's some sick skills. You look like a total wreck by the way." my head flew up to the familiar voice, still jumpy from the mini heart attack I had when I tripped. "Mom!" I groaned, when I saw her grinning while sitting among a total mess, unpacking boxes that lay all over the floor.

This is a scene I've been all too familiar with, granted that it occurred so often. I sighed heavily knowing that my poor mother has to go through this all the time because of me. Yes, me. This time it's not the "parent problem", it's the "child problem". I am sort of a... special case. Thanks to me, in the past four years, I have changed five different schools, five different houses and shifted across three different countries. Right, now you must be wondering what the hell I've done.

Well, you see, I am well, gorgeous. *Clears throat* At least that's what everybody told me. My hazelnut brown hair with courtesy of my mother, has golden highlights in it and curled softly down to my waist. My eyes a pale shade of grey, inherited from my father - a real charmer by the way. My height being slightly taller than 5 foot 7, with what they deemed-- perfect facial features. Lucky? Yes, but god is fair and well, life is not.

Sure enough, all the boys in middle school were busy chasing my skirt, the girls would suck up to me hoping that they would receive some of the attention the boys gave me and I became the unanimous "queen bee" of the school. But, life as the most popular girl wasn't always as perfect and glamorous as you see in chick flicks -- Nah that's bullshit. Really. It was rather difficult.

You don't get insults thrown in your face, you get it thrown behind your back and probably, everywhere else. Toilet cubicles, walls, tables. You don't get enemies, you get frenemies. You won't get bullied, but you will have the most ridiculous amounts of 'accidents' happening. You will never be isolated, but you will never have true friends either. Throw in a few nasty notes pasted on your locker because no one dares to confront you in fear of social suicide.

Well, yeah that's just the not-so-glamorous side that happens every once in a while , so I was patient and forgiving as the last thing I needed is expulsion from cat fights. As much as I would like to avoid trouble, trouble always finds me though.

Finally a gritty (or should I say reckless) group of girls confronted me challenging my "position", like seriously, I know right? Real life high school drama here. But then again, my life is a drama isn't it. Anyway, a group of six girls. Real grown up huh? Six against one, how fair was that. Not to mention, all my "friends" disappeared the moment I was confronted, what happened to "BFFL"? Bitches.

*Flashback*

The school bell went off, playing a longer tune than usual, signalling that the last period of the day ended. I picked up my bag and walked towards my locker with girls and boy swarming around me like usual. Just as I turned the corner, the crowd slowly parted as someone pushed their way through.

"Hey Brea." A pretty blonde girl with a micro mini strutted up to me followed by five others. Oh no, not one of those bitchy gossiping session again? I thought to myself.

"Going somewhere?" She smiled sweetly saying. "Uh yeah, I've got something on." I smiled saying in an attempt to escape. She looked down at her nails and sighed, "Oh, too bad you're not going anywhere." She pouted her heavily slathered bright pink lips, and a second later started smirking, as they slowly cornered me.

"Whoa hey hey, what's going on?" I said as they nudged me till my back hit my locker door with a thud. "We've got something to talk to you about, slut." She spat. I seriously had no idea who is she or what she wants with me! I looked for familiar faces beside me for help but there were none, to my surprise. I gave a quick scan among the crowd forming around us and saw a few pair of familiar guilty eyes avoiding my gaze. Dang. That hurt.

"Hello?? We're here?" she patted me on my cheek and brought my focus back to the group. "I saw you flirting with Nick yesterday! We've had enough of you, whore, flirting with all the boys and acting like you're Miss popular, like you own the school! " She started shrieking at me, and who the hell is Nick anyway?!

"Do you think that you're that pretty, you fugly bitch? I am going to teach you a lesson and show you who's in charge!" she yelled and shoved my left shoulder into the lockers, her red manicured nails digging into my shoulder. That's it. I ticked. I absolutely hate it when people shove me. Gossiping and backstabbing was fine with me but nobody pushes me around.

Without thinking, I roared back, "Wrong move Missy!" grabbed her wrist which was stuck on my shoulder, spun her around and kicked her down, my pent up anger overflowing. The other girls started joining the cat fight, I wouldn't say cat fight, they're the cats, and I'm like, a bear. The crowd of students went "ooh" and "omg" but no one tried to stop it or help, they just watched.

The girls started yanking and scratching at my hair and clothes. Next thing I knew, I exploded. I tackled them, delivering punches, round house kicks, powerful hooks and jabs, flinging girl after girl on the floor in a matter of seconds. After two minutes all six of them were sprawled across the floor un-glamorously and mostly, unconscious. Wow about 58 seconds, that's a new record. Shocked gasps and screams were heard among the crowd. This was the outcome of having a Mixed Martial Arts Fighter as a father, I was a monster.

The principal and two other teachers pushed through the students and all their jaws fell open at the sight of the girls. If I wasn't so angry then, I could say that it was hilarious, their faces are priceless! The teachers grabbed hold of my hands one on each side, and dragged me to the principal office, while the principal called the ambulance. They contacted my parents afterwards, and after what seem like ten years of discussion in the office, I had to be expelled for sending six girls at a shot to the hospital. Oops.

*Back to reality*

Well that's mostly what happened through all my four other schools, jealous girls wouldn't leave me alone, they just had to get touchy and shove me around. I tried to control my strength and temper but it was almost impossible, I just couldn't help it. Whenever I get shoved around, it's like my vision gets clouded with fury, my limbs move on their own and when I regain control, I've already done it, all of them would need to be hospitalized for at least a week or two.

I've just transferred to my sixth school and I do not, ever, wish to transfer again. It was a tedious process for me and mom. Physically and mentally. I love her for not blaming me for being such a troublesome kid, for going through all the trouble and not complaining about it. I don't want to cause trouble for my mom who seemed extremely exhausted after dad's death a year ago.

I was filled with guilt and therefore, determined in all ways to keep out of trouble. I figured the best way would be to avoid attention, then, came the brilliant idea of dressing up like a nerd to blend into the background as I always see in movies.

Now we've moved to California, its been a week since. I like it here, life seems to be very relaxed, its like a holiday all year round. Mom found a new job as a secretary in the city area that pays well, and we got this house, I must say, I've begun to love. It is big but not huge, just big, with two stories and a total of six rooms, five bathrooms, a kitchen, a pool and a garage. The pool is at the back of the house, with a mini garden. Each room was big and spacey, four on the second story and two on the first.

My room was the second to the right after heading up the stairs, I painted my door black, and added a little rustic edge to it, but my room itself , was painted a creamy lime green, and my furniture are alternatives of either green (my favorite color) , black or white, its very lively and easy on the eyes.

The reason I painted my door black and all dark, but my room green and all bright? Was because it would have the "Narnia" effect. In fact, I am grinning right now. From the outside its like, what a gloomy room, but when you open the door and step in, its like freaking Narnia.

I have a walk-in wardrobe to the right of my room, pretty spacious--I love it, which is connected to my bathroom. My desktop, laptop ,TV and game consoles, are in the front of my room, in front of my queen size bed. While my amplifiers and stereos are to the left of my bed. On the left wall, I have a wide landscape window stretching across 3/4 of my room that touches the ceiling all the way down to half a meter from my room floor. I have bean bags to the right of my bed and a biggg fur (dont worry, its artficial) rug spread across the empty floor ahead of my bed, which I would lie or roll and play my Wii or video games on. I AM IN LOVE WITH IT. Guess I wouldn't be hanging out with anyone here in Cali, so my room has got to be a sanctuary.
