Sky

I spent the rest of Monday and Tuesday with Dan, but went back to my parent's house up until Thursday. Although I really wanted to spend those days with Dan I realized that I wouldn't be seeing my father for another few months. Dan showed up at around lunchtime on Thursday and ended up watching sports with my dad as I complained about how complicated hockey is. It was always hard saying bye to my dad. I never actually miss him once he's gone, but once I have to give him that last goodbye hug I usually tear up. Dan drove everyone to the airport and witnessed my parents making out, as if they were teenagers again.

"Do you think we'll be like that when we're older?" Dan asked me. I blushed and shrugged my shoulders. All night I thought about Dan's question. I felt happy that he asked that question. It meant that he thought about our future together. When it was Friday I got woken up with a text from my manager explaining that everyone's shifts were cancelled due to crickets being released by a customer the night before. I'd usually be happy, but Trevor texted me a few hours later that he saw the sign on the pet store that I worked at. I no longer had an excuse to miss his party. "Don't worry, Sky. You took Tae Kwon Do as a kid. If he tried anything on you just go ninja on his butt," Ave said, trying to reassure me. "Thanks, Ave. That totally helped," I said with my voice laced in sarcasm. "That's why I'm here," she said before skipping off towards the living room. My phone started beeping so I checked the message.

~ Garrett: Hey, I heard you're going to the party. You need to tell me about your winter break! See you there! ~

I laughed at the text. I would've never thought that Garrett, the school's popular quarterback, would be casually texting me. I sent him a quick text confirming that I would see him there before putting on a shirt that would be better for a party. "Alright Sky. No drinking today," I said out loud to my reflection. Dan suddenly walked in my room and scared me. Stupid reflection! "Talking to yourself again?" he joked before hugging me. "I was aware that I was speaking out loud this time," I informed him while poking him in the chest.

"Well I think it's a good plan. Everyone else is heading out for dinner. Do you want to meet up with us later at that mini movie theater we found?" he asked me hopefully. "What if somebody we know is there?" I asked him. He chuckled at that. "Do you honestly think a couple of students would choose a little theater compared to a Cineplex that's filled with "hot guys" or "sluts?" Dan said with air quotations. I busted out laughing at how funny he looked. "I guess you're right. And if we run into any hipsters we can just claim that it was a coincidence and we ran into each other," I said still laughing. "Sounds like a plan," he said before kissing me.

I tried to end the kiss before things started going too far but Dan wasn't having any of it. Dan pulled me even closer to him, which made me run my fingers through his hair before grasping it. A soft moan came out of his mouth before he put his arms under my shirt and started running them down my back. Before things could get any further my phone beeped. Dan groaned as he set me down. I didn't even realize that my legs were wrapped around his waist. I read the text stating that Trevor was here to pick me up. I shuddered at the fact that Trevor now knew where I lived. "I'll say that I'm tired or something so I can leave earlier. What time is the movie?" I asked him. "It's the last showing so it's at midnight" he answered. "I'll call Ave at eleven so she can pick me up in time for the movie," I said before grabbing my purse off of the bed.

I put on my long winter jacket so I could be really warm. I absolutely hate cold weather. "See you guys later," I called out before running towards the elevator. I just wanted the night to end as quickly as possible so I could get back to my friends.

~~~
The party was awful. Trevor kept avoiding all of the guys in the room so I wouldn't dance with them. I had to practically sneak away to speak to Garrett. Trevor asked me to dance with him for the millionth time tonight. It was a slow song and Trevor held onto me very tightly. The song was finished when a guy I've never met approached us. "Hey man, what's up? I haven't seen you in a while. Who's this?" the stranger asked. Trevor sent him a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Hey Joe. This is my girlfriend Sky," he said while nodding to me. What?
"Uh actually... I..." The words weren't coming out of my mouth clearly. I looked at the clock, which finally said 11:30 on it. "I actually have to go. My friend is probably already here," I said as I slowly backed up towards the entrance. "Nice meeting you!" Joe said before he walked over to a couple of girls wearing almost nothing. "You could've asked me to drive you," Trevor said from behind me, which made me jump a bit. "I don't like causing trouble," I said as I stuck my arm into my jacket. Trevor grabbed my arm harder than I would have liked. "You'll never cause me trouble," he said strongly to me. I gave him a smile even though I felt like there was a double meaning to it. I heard a honking noise outside.
"I need to go. Thanks for inviting me!" I said quickly and basically ran through the door to the car without letting him say goodbye. "Breath Sky," Avery said from the drivers seat as soon as I jumped in. I looked at her and took a deep breath and then exhaled. "It was so awful," I said once I caught my breath. Ave shook her head and silenced me. "Tell me about it after the movie. I don't want gloomy stories to ruin Chris Pine for me," she explained. I couldn't help buy laugh. Avery ignored me and drove out of the beaches and into downtown Toronto.
~~~

"Are you sure you don't want to sleep over at my place?" Dan asked me for the fourth time since Ave drove to his and Luke's condo. "I do, but I have work tomorrow. You should stop by the pet store. I have to give you something," I told him with a grin. "Can you tell me what it is?" Dan asked me with a curious look. I shook my head before closing the door and rolling down the window. "You have to wait and see." Dan pouted at me before kissing me through the open window. "Fine, but it better be worth it," he said while pointing his finger at me. I playfully bit it before Ave threatened the boys to go inside before she had to do it herself.

On the ride home Ave questioned me even more about the party. I didn't leave anything out except for the part where Trevor grabbed my arm hard. I didn't think he did it on purpose, plus he was drinking. "He said that you're his girlfriend? Where the hell did that psycho get that from?" she questioned angrily. I sighed and shook my head. "I don't know. I sure as hell didn't say or do anything to suggest that," I explained before I clicked the button to open the garage door for Ave. "You should find a way to set things straight. Why don't you explain to him how you feel? Heck, you should tell him that you're seeing someone," she suggested. I thought about it in my head. Would he listen to me?

"I'll try if he starts telling people at school about it. I don't want to tell him that I have a boyfriend in case he wants proof. It's a bit too risky," I told her. She nodded in agreement before giving me a hug. "If he tries anything I'll use pepper spray on him," she whispered before heading off to bed. I shook my head and laughed quietly at her joke.

Actually, it probably wasn't even a joke. I didn't have a doubt in my mind that Avery actually has pepper spray and carries it in her bra or something.

With a few last thoughts I headed off to bed after taking a long shower. I'm one of those people who take 45-minute long showers that consist mainly of thinking and not wanting to step out of the warm water. I thought about Dan's parents, graduation, my future career, exams, and even what I had to give Dan tomorrow. I'm pretty sure he's going to be excited. After all, he has been talking about wanting it for a few years. It's also awesome that Luke, my parents, Avery, and myself all had to do with my little surprise. I went to bed with a small smile on my face just picturing Dan's reaction tomorrow. Not even the thought of Trevor could ruin my happy thoughts of Dan. Maybe the next few months won't be as terrible as we thought. Well, at least as long as we don't screw up.

"Muffin peed! I'm already taking care of spot so you have to go," Ave yelled out from the back room. I muttered some things under my breath before I opened the door. If it weren't for my quick reflexes I would've stepped in a puddle of puppy pee. "You could've warned me of where she peed!" I yelled out. "Oops..." Ave said before giggling. I glared at the wall separating us before cleaning everything up. After everything was cleaned up I realized that Muffin was probably hiding from us since she somehow got out of her little room. I looked behind everything, but she was nowhere to be found.

"Ave, have you seen muffin anywhere?" I called out. "Nope, I thought you would have found her by now," she said nervously as she emerged from the golden retrievers room. "Crap!" I ran out from the back and realized that the door had been open the entire time. A few customers looked at me weirdly as I began to look inside of the storage boxes and behind random places. Someone would have said something by now if they saw her. Unless that someone decided to leave because she was what they wanted! I'm so going to get fired! I walked out of the store before running around the mall to look for anything suspicious. Hopefully Sherry wouldn't notice I was gone, but Ave would come up with something. I was just about to give up before I heard a small bark. I stopped in my tracks and whipped my head to the side to see Dan walking towards me with a happy Muffins in his arms.

"Looking for something?" he asked while scratching behind her ears. I let out a huge breath and nodded. "Where did you find her?" I asked him while he handed Muffins to me. "When I walked into the mall I stopped for a cup of coffee. When I was in line at the Tim Horton's I felt something touch my leg and instantly thought it was a kid or something, so I looked down and saw this little puppy," he explained before petting her again.

"Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for bringing her back. I was totally going to get fired if I didn't find her. Now I just need to sneak her back into her little room without anyone noticing," I said out of breath from all of the running. I probably look amazing right now, I thought to myself sarcastically. "Here," Dan said while taking off his sweater. "Wrap her in this and I'll walk in in front of you." I nodded and followed him to the store with Muffin's wrapped up in the sweater. We successfully managed to make it into the store unnoticed. Apparently Sherry had to leave for a few hours and left Avery in charge since I was on a "bathrooms break" with "girl problems." Dan sure enjoyed when Avery told us that it was her explanation.

"So you said that you had something to give me?" Dan asked me. I instantly remembered why he was here and smiled brightly. "Oh yeah! It's not only from me. It's from Avery, Luke, and my parents as well," I explained, which made Dan look really confused. "Why would you all want to give me something?" he asked confused while looking at the big dog breeds. I grinned at the thought of how excited he was going to be.

"We've all heard you talking about it for months and Luke said that you've been wanting it for a long time, but never got around to making a decision. We made a decision for you and decided to get you a dog!" I explained excitedly. Dan's face went from confused to pure joy in a matter of seconds.

"You all bought me a dog?" he asked as if I wasn't serious. "Yup," I said and led him into the back rooms. "We decided to let you pick which one you wanted though. We knew you wanted a golden retriever, but we weren't sure of exactly which one you would want," I said, watching him play with all of the puppies like a five year old. The puppies were jumping all over Dan and he definitely loved it. "How do I even pick? I know I want a boy, but I don't know which one is better," he said while pointing to the three dogs with a blue mark on their collars.

"Reggie is really energetic and always wants to play, but he gets distracted easily. Spot is shy and really smart, but he loves to play after a walk, and Rover is a great guard dog, but doesn't play much," I explained while showing him each puppy. Dan thought for a few minutes while looking and interacting at each of the three. He looked torn between the three, but eventually picked Spot up. "I want him. He seems really cool," he said which made Spot look at us as if he were thinking, "I know you're talking about me." Dan and I laughed at his face before I brought him up to the front.

Since I had an employee's discount and a student discount card, Spot came out a lot cheaper than we all thought. The normal price for a Golden Retriever was $1200.00, but Spot only came out at $750.00. My parents gave me $300.00, Luke and Ave both gave $150.00 each since they didn't buy anything expensive for Dan, and I was going to pay the rest since I had been saving up since our two-month anniversary. I was expecting to be paying about $500.00, but only ended up paying $100.00. I felt bad that everyone else paid more so I decided to add in all of the supplies that Dan would need for Spot for the first few months.

"How much did it come out to?" Dan asked since I didn't let him see the total. I smiled smugly at him before answering. "Way less than I ever would've thought," I said before putting the receipt in a little drawer and locking it so he wouldn't ever see. He glared at me when I stuck my tongue out. "I really don't want you spending money on me," he said with a pout. I smiled at how thoughtful he was. "It came out cheap and it was all of us. You really wanted this for a long time and you deserve him. By the way, you can change his name. He's only nine weeks old so he can get use to something new very quickly," I informed him. Dan smiled at me and was about to kiss me before he realized that we were in a public mall that probably contained students from my school.

"I think I'll name him Jack," he decided. The newly named puppy, Jack, looked up from Dan's arms before raising one of his little puppy eyebrows and yawning. I couldn't help but coo at the cuteness of the puppy. "I think he likes it," I said and Dan agreed. I helped Dan set up a carrier that would be big enough for Jack until he was about six months old. "Thank you so much for this, Sky," Dan said with so much love in his eyes as his smile was reaching his eyes. It made me feel really happy to see Dan experiencing so much Joy. "No problem. You deserve it," I said. Ave came out of the back room with a huge dog book about Golden retrievers. I proceeded to explain everything that he would need to know and stuck sticky notes in the important pages.

Ave took over my cash register since I was technically doing my job and helping a customer.

"Oh my gosh! Hi Mr. Phillips. Is that your puppy?" A girl named Alana said as she walked towards us. "Hello Alana, and yes he is," Dan said with a huge smile. "Hi Sky!" Alana greeted me to which I greeted her back. "I haven't seen you here in a while. I wanted to ask some questions about cat toys, but didn't want to talk to someone other than you or Avery," she explained. I couldn't help but feel happy that someone from school wanted to talk to Avery and I, even if it was just about cat toys. "Sure thing. I'm just explaining some things to Mr. Phillips and then I can help you. If Ave is free you can ask her," I said and pointed to the cash. Alana smiled and said bye to Dan and I before heading over to Avery. "She's in my day two class," Dan explained. I nodded and smiled before explaining how to get Jack comfortable at home.

~~~
After a long morning of work, Ave and I decided to head over to Dan and Luke's apartment. When Luke let us in the first thing we saw was Dan attempting to get Jack to let him put his collar on. Jack was actually shaking his head at Dan, which made everyone laugh at him. "Why won't he let me?" he asked me desperately. I laughed again before making my way over to Jack. "He's the smart one, remember?" I said before kneeling down. I pulled a soft treat from my pocket and held it up for Jack.
"Alright Jack, you're going to listen to me and you're going to listen good. I'll give you this treat if you let Dan put your collar on you, ok?" I said to the puppy. His eyes narrowed at me before I dragged Dan back to him. "Try putting it on him now," I said. Dan nodded and slowly put the collar on Jack as the puppy continued to stare at the treat that I was holding up. "Good boy," Dan said happily before taking the treat from me and giving it to Jack. He walked away munching happily on his little snack.
"So I'm going to be calling you every five minutes to ask you about the little demon," Dan joked before giving me a long awaited kiss. It sucked that we couldn't share any intimacy this morning. "Alright, we're heading out," Luke said with his arm around Avery and left quickly before we could even say bye. Dan and I both laughed at them before sitting on the sofa.
"When I got home I called my mom. My parents want to meet you as soon as they get back from a business trip in a few weeks," Dan said. I tensed up as I started to feel nervous. "What if they hate me?" I whispered to myself before I felt Dan squeezing me in his arms. "Don't worry, Sky. They'll love you. The worst that could possibly happen is they getting angry with me for dating one of my students, which when I say it out loud makes it sound awful. We just need to explain what happened to them and let them cool off if worst comes to worst," he explained and kissed my temple. I was about to retort and start worrying about something else when Dan started kissing lower until he reached my neck, which made me let out a moan.
I felt Dan smirk before he continued on sucking at my weak spot, which instantly made me wrap my arms around his neck. I brought his lips back up to mine and ran my fingers all through his hair, which had grown quite a bit. I was straddling Dan and I could feel the bulge growing in his pants when Jack decided to bark and ruin the moment. Dan groaned and glared at the little puppy that looked like he was glaring back at Dan. "Why do we always get interrupted?" Dan complained. I giggle before picking Jack up. "Do you want to go out for a walk?" I asked him in a baby voice. His tail started wagging and he barked in excitement.
"Alright, Jack, let's make your owner walk you," I said to the puppy before handing him over to Dan. "You do realize that I have to get rid of a little something first, right?" Dan said and pointed down to his crotch area. I threw my head back and laughed. "Just think of the school librarian naked or something," I said, which made Dan shiver. "That lady keeps winking at me. She looks like she's at least eighty," he complained. I gave him a strict look, which made him close his eyes and say "old naked men" repeatedly for a while before his little "problem" went away.
"Out you go boys. I don't want to see you back for another 20 minutes. And don't forget to pick up after him!" I yelled out after I pushed Dan into the hallway and threw his jacket at him. He attempted to scowl at me, but only ended up smiling before getting into the elevator. It excited me to think that when they got back from the walk that I would be getting some one on one time with Dan without any distractions.
