Niall threw his phone onto the wooden table, raking his fingers through his hair. He turned so that his back was facing you and you knew he was silently cursing everything in the world. This was going to turn out miserably for both of you and there was no way to escape it now. Your eyes fell to the ground, almost in shame, and you stood silent until you heard Niall whimper. You immediately lifted your gaze, alarmed by the thought of him crying. You'd never seen him cry before, and it wasn't a bad thing, but it surprised you. "I'm sorry," Niall mumbled, quickly wiping his eyes as his back continued to face you. He spoke over his shoulder, "I'm really sorry."
"For what?" You spoke up, "This is just as much my fault as it is yours. I should've known better than to mess around with my English teacher and then fall in love with him along the way." Your filter seemed to slip from you before you could find it again, and you just admitted something you vowed to always keep a secret. Your eyes widened with shock, from your own words, and you watched as Niall's body froze. Dang it. He heard me. Your heartbeat increased and you could almost feel a sort of tension in the room.
Niall turned rather slowly and your eyes met his. His eyebrows were furrowed in a way that had you thinking he was about ready to go off on you. Instead, however, he nearly whispered, "Is that true?"
Swallowing hard, you tried to brush it all of by mumbling, "Is what true?"
"What you just said," Niall's voice was rushed as his face eased into a gentle expression, "Is that true? Do you love me, (Y/N)?"
You rocked on your feet, dropping your eyes to your entangle fingers. "I mean, it's kind of hard not to. Look at you. You're smart, talented... incredibly good-looking. And you're so sweet to me. Nobody's ever, you know, treated me the way you do." Your eyes raised to shyly meet his again, and a smile tugged at his lips. Sighing and shaking away your thoughts, you breathed, "I shouldn't be saying this. I'm sorry. Let's just-"
"No, you should absolutely be saying this. I think that's the best thing I've ever heard you say. Now I don't look like an idiot for falling in love with my student," He paused to chuckle, "Because she's fallen for me just the same." Such a poetic genius. No wonder he's an English teacher.
"Niall..." You started, truly at a loss for words. What were you supposed to say, anyway? Dating your teacher? How's that going to look? Not very good. As much as you wanted it to work out, you knew it wouldn't be possible. At least, not without a handful of sacrifices.
As quickly as you could open your mouth to protest, Niall had already crossed the room to you. His hands placed themselves on either side of your face and he gently smiled down at you. His eyes scanned your face for a moment before he connected his lips with yours, pouring all of his love onto you in one long and heartfelt kiss. Honestly, you felt kind of overwhelmed. Is this what it feels like to be in love? As his lips parted from yours, his hand found yours and he intertwined your fingers. His forehead rested against yours and his other finger moved to tilt your chin upward, so that you were forced to look nowhere else but into his stunning eyes. "I want to be with you," He whispered, "I've never been so sure of anything in my life. I don't care how wrong people think it is. I'm not one to follow the rules, anyway." He ended with a flirty wink before adding, "I'm quitting my job. They're gonna fire me, anyway."
"Are you sure? Maybe they won't. Maybe they won't if we lie and say you were... tutoring me at your house," You tried, and Niall only laughed in response. "I know it's lame, but Niall, I don't want you to lose your job because of me. Isn't this your dream? Teaching. Isn't that what you've always wanted to do? Baby, if you quit to be with me, you won't be able to teach at all anymore."
"Trust me, I know that," Niall said as he pulled away from you, picking up his phone again. "I'm okay with that," He explained, "I'll just go back to school with you and change my major. It'll all work out, I promise."
You smiled lovingly at him. Your parents didn't even worry you anymore. They probably should've still been a huge concern to you, but you were in love and everything else was only a cloud in the distance now. "I love you," You proudly stated as Niall stared at you, almost smirking, while he held his phone to his ear, waiting for an answer.
"I love you, too," He returned, just before someone picked up on the other end of the line. Smiling in content, you listened as Niall spoke into his phone, "Hello? Yeah, it's Niall Horan. I'm calling to put in my notice of resignation." There was a pause, in which Niall's boss had asked for a reason, and Niall proceeded to tell him, "I've fallen in love."
