Summary: Virgil, Patton, Roman, Remus, Janus, and Logan are all friends who sleep around with each other (the twin brothers don't sleep together - but they share amicably) since they're all in their early twenties and not ready for the hassle of a full-time relationship yet. But when Logan ends up pregnant and tells Patton the nerd absolutely refuses to tell him who the other father is. Patton needs to find out though.

One thing Patton enjoyed about Friday nights were the evenings off work, and often during these evenings one of Patton's friends came to visit and get free food. Sometimes he got something else in return but he never wanted to push anything. Anyway, this particular time Logan was visiting. And he hadn't visited for a while so Patton was excited.
Even more when he heard the knock on his front door. "Logie!" Patton collapsed on his best friend straight away in a hug, and by now Logan learnt to accept the hug when that happened. "Oh my goodness how are you? I haven't seen you in ages!"
"I'm so sorry, work caught up." Logan's voice was a lot softer than when Patton previously saw him - but that didn't matter. The reason Logan hadn't visited Patton in a while was because he was working towards a promotion in his business job, so his voice probably hurt from all the speaking with official suit-people. Patton was so happy to be an elementary school teacher when he was reminded that suits existed.
But at this point Patton's home was a second home for all his friends. They were used to just walking in, placing their bags down and walking into the living room, and Logan specifically also retrieved a book from the bookshelf. "Oh! I got some Crofters yesterday!" Patton cheered, knowing that both Logan and their mutual friend Roman adored the sweet jam. Surprisingly though Logan shrugged and kept his eyes on the book he was reading.
"I'm not particularly hungry."
Logan was never the type to downright reject Crofters, so something definitely wasn't right. "OK... What's up Lo?" Patton knew he had to be careful with Logan's emotions - but luckily the introvert had gotten better at talking openly about his stresses and concerns. He seemed a little reserved though this time, only closing his book.
"It's nothing Patton, I'm just... not going to be a fan of Crofters for a couple of months." The pause in his sentence brought a blush to Logan's cheeks. But what could stop Logan from loving his favourite food for months? Hopefully it wasn't some kind of crazy diet someone was pushing him into. "It's alright. Just make sure you save some jars for me."
The last part was said in a soft giggle - but this was no laughing matter. "Lo please tell me what's happened." Patton said plainly and with a commanding tone, that visually made Logan nervous again. "If you don't tell me I will have to recruit Janus and Virgil to get the truth out of you."
"No!" That shout seemed so scared, so out of character for Logan to do that it made Patton flinch and regret his slight threat. "Just... Don't tell anyone if I tell you OK?"
Patton smiled softly and brought out his pinky finger. "Pinky promise!" Patton cheered and Logan shook the finger with his own pinky. He then took a deep breath and closed his eyes before uttering three words Patton couldn't believe at first.
"I'm actually - pregnant."
But once Patton heard those words he immediately gasped and covered his mouth. Was this why Logan had given him a surprise visit? He thought they were both protected last time they saw each other... "It's not yours Pat. I'm eight weeks along and I haven't seen you for fifteen weeks. I counted."
That was slightly relieving. Of course Patton would treat any kid like his own especially one to someone Patton cared about dearly, but he knew he wasn't in the position to be a father figure yet. "Do you know who's it is?" Patton inquired, and at that Logan blushed and looked away for a moment.
"Well... Yes, but I don't want to tell him. I don't know how he'd react." For the first time since he got a B in high school math class, Logan seemed to be a little ashamed, as he clutched his stomach and looked down. It broke Patton's heart to see Logan like that. But the only people Logan slept with were people in their tight-knit friendship group - so that meant a pregnancy could cause stress to the whole group if it wasn't taken well.
"Maybe I could help? I won't tell him for you but I can kind of gage his idea of parenthood for you..." Logan quickly shook his head at that, keeping his head down more and grasping each hand close together. "Of course it does depend on your option whether you need to tell them or not. If you were to choose an abortion I'm happy to keep this to the grave and help cover your tracks if anyone asks anything."
Logan quickly shook his head at that suggestion too. "I want to keep the baby, I'm at a place where I can work from home now I have that promotion." A smile was all that needed to be exchanged to congratulate Logan on getting that promotion he had been working towards. "I don't feel comfortable telling you who the other father is but... I should tell him. I will soon."
"There's never a rush or necessity for these things Lo." Patton reassured gently, finally making Logan smile again. "Just try to not stress out the baby and you'll be the bestest Dad ever!"
The conversation moved to other topics as it always did with Patton and Logan. But Patton kept on wondering about who the other father was. Still, Patton was determined to be Watson and find out anyway just so that he knew all his friends were happy with their new friendship member coming in less than nine months.

Every second month Patton and Logan's group of friends did a big catch-up all together where they could update each other on their lives and other news. This month they had all booked a table at the posh restaurant Roman worked at part time while he paid his way through grad school. It was by pure charisma he was able to go off shift and sit for a meal.
"Come on bitches! Alcohol right up!" Roman had already drunk a little bit as he bounced to the table with bottles of all his friends' favourite alcohol. "Is Hot Topic not here yet? I swear we need to get him a watch for his birthday."
"It's term time Ro. We can't be too harsh." Patton spoke gently as he was poured a glass of white wine. He loved spending time with his friends like this. It had been a couple of weeks since Logan had informed Patton of his pregnancy, and thus far no-one else knew (at least that Patton knew of). The two were a little separate from the rest of the group as they were at the end of the table and facing each other - but Patton would be dead if he let slip his excitement that he could spot a small bump on Logan's stomach.
Even though he wasn't saying anything Patton could notice that Logan was keeping his eyes on the entrance to the restaurant. Logan usually was the one to organise get-togethers, he couldn't this time as he had 'other commitments', so it wasn't surprising that Logan was still checking and making sure everything was running smoothly. Virgil usually ran late to meetings though - he was bad at time management anyway but especially now he was in his final year of college. He was really unpredictable this year but his friends were always by his side and happily waiting.
Luckily Virgil soon emerged through the front doors out of breath and still with his backpack on. "Sorry I'm late. I procrastinated my essay until 3am this morning and it was due an hour ago." Virgil ran immediately towards Patton and Logan's side of the table, one hand landing on Logan's chair and the other to the chair at the end of the table, before he spoke quickly to Patton. "Mind if I sit here?"
"Of course you can kiddo! How's classes?" Patton might be speaking to Virgil like he did elementary students but Virgil found it comforting. He was happy after years of working odd jobs he finally found a major he was passionate about, he wasn't as lucky as a lot of his other friends to find that passion at 18.
"Good, good. Getting a little stressful since I need good grades but-" Virgil's updates was disturbed by Roman arriving with the Prosecco and starting to pour the drink into Virgil's glass. He then began to do the same with Logan's but the nerd quickly spoke up.
"I'm actually not drinking tonight." Logan spoke softly and covered the glass with his palm. The group paused their conversations to look over at their friend after hearing that. Logan would usually take Ubers to and from restaurants as he didn't like driving in the dark, and he didn't drive to the restaurant tonight. Everyone assumed he'd be drinking (apart from Patton).
Logan smiled a little in Patton and Virgil's direction before taking a deep breath. "There's actually some pretty big news I need to tell you guys." Logan's hand escaped the table to go under it, as did Virgil's hand but only for a second as both arms were soon above the table again. "I'm actually... going to be a Dad in about 4 months."
The look of shock covered all men's faces just like what happened when Patton first found out. All of them had slept with Logan at least once. Roman was the first to say something. "Do you know who the other father is Lo? I mean of course we'll all support but it'd be good to know."
"Yes and he already knows, don't worry. But we don't feel comfortable telling who the other father is yet." A lot of the group looked relieved after that, but joy came back to their faces about the new friend in their group that will be spoilt and treated like a royal.
Remus especially seemed excited to dress up the baby like a doll. "We need to get them a little suit so they can be just like Lo! Aww it'll be so cute - do you know the sex yet?" Logan shook his head, explaining he just had the dating scan a couple of days ago and the sex scan was the next month. "Make sure to put in the group chat when you find out! I'm sure we'll all pitch in and buy some stuff for our new little buddy."
"Buddy sounds like a good baby name." Virgil whispered quietly, the first word he had spoken since arriving. Logan raised an eyebrow hearing that name and thought for a moment.
"Indeed it does." Logan laughed softly, and that laugh caused Virgil to smile more. Virgil loved being congratulated for good ideas - it was a big weakness of his that his friends loved to exploit. "I'll consider it."

It took a couple of months for Patton to make time to host a friend in his house. Logan was almost eight months along his pregnancy so the entire friendship group were spoiling him, but he had kept a lot of it a secret. No-one knew the sex of the baby but they knew the child would be called Buddy. It had just been said so much that it fit.
But today Patton was having Virgil visit for a cup of tea, citing that the exam he had yesterday was still stressing him out and causing cognitive distortions. Virgil walked in as soon as he arrived and pretty much collapsed on the sofa. "Coffee please." He moaned into the pillow, and Patton happily did as told. The pair started their conversation about college which helped calm Virgil down significantly.
But Virgil smiled more when he heard his phone vibrate. "Oooh who's that?" Patton joked, knowing Virgil had a few college flings that made him smile like that it the past. And Patton hadn't heard of any romance from his best friend in months - whereas usually he was on top of all the romance news.
"It's just Lo. I'm hanging out with him tonight." In their particular friendship group, 'hanging out' meant a very specific activity was going to take place. It meant that no-one was allowed to disturb the pair, and Patton had noticed Virgil and Logan had been 'hanging out' a lot more recently. But it made sense since Logan and Virgil were neighbours that they'd be spending a lot more time together than Logan with the rest of the group. The other father could still be someone else... But Patton should ask.
Patton tried to look as nonchalant as possible sitting on the other side of the sofa. "So... Who do you think Buddy's other father is?" Virgil's eyes widened at the question and he cleared his throat. Definitely some nervous behaviour. "I mean I know he won't tell us but do you have any suspicions?"
"No... I don't. It doesn't matter to me anyway. I'll treat Buddy the same no matter what."
Virgil's smile and voice was so soft and gentle, and Patton noticed Virgil's arm subconsciously go into a cradle position as he spoke. A secret only Patton knew about Virgil since they had been friends since grade school was that Virgil had a huge soft spot for kids - even more than Patton sometimes. Virgil grew up around younger siblings so loved being a role model and parent-type figure. He would make a really good Dad one day.
But Virgil was also right that it didn't matter who the other father was - all that mattered was that Logan was happy and safe with Buddy. The pair continued their chat more until Virgil received a text from Logan that he had just returned from work, and at that Patton and Virgil quickly wrapped up their time together and Virgil got in the car to drive to Logan's.
Logan and Virgil's 'hang out' probably wasn't what Patton expected though. Instead of getting in bed together the pair snuggled together on the sofa in front of the TV, Logan eating three packets of popcorn, and Virgil keeping his hand on Logan's stomach to feel Buddy's kicks.

As the due date began to approach all the friendship group gave Logan their schedules so that someone was always available to take Logan to the hospital if anything were to happen. Since Logan was a nerd he had made everyone's schedules fit into one spreadsheet with times corresponding to a colour for each person. Patton noticed there was a lot of purple... But Virgil was a student so it made sense.
Unfortunately the time that Logan needed to go to the hospital was a time Virgil was stuck in lectures. Patton was called instead as he was sat at home baking cupcakes for the elementary school's baking sale. "Hey Logie! Everything OK?" Patton chirped and carried on baking. He didn't think much, seeming Logan had many Braxton Hicks that he mistaken for labour until the hospital visit. But Logan seemed to be grumbling a little more today.
"Sorry Pat, I need to be taken to the-uh-the hospital again. The contractions are reaching about-uh- sixty seconds long." Logan's grumbles were slow and gentle, and hearing the pain Logan was in made Patton stop what he was doing and prepare for the drive to the hospital. The group had all been told Logan's hospital plan and therefore Patton knew how to help and where to go.
And Logan was definitely in pain when Patton arrived to his apartment. He was red-faced, panting and sweating, clutching his large stomach. The kicks were almost visible under the blue shirt. All the way Logan kept apologising in case this was another fake set of contractions even though he was sure this time it wasn't, thanking Patton for driving him anyway. "Have you informed the other father that you think Buddy's coming?" Patton interrupted Logan's rambles to say. Logan nodded and looked at his phone.
"I texted him... The-uh-the spreadsheet says he's busy for another hour but..." As Logan was speaking the phone vibrated again. "Yeah, OK, he just texted me saying he'll be right there once class is finished."
Class? Ooh, that gave Patton more clues about who the other father was. Of course Virgil was doing his undergrad and Patton's Watson skills were telling him that the father was likely Virgil. But at the same time Roman was in grad school and Janus was a high school teacher. So it really was anyone apart from Remus.
The nurses seemed happy to see Logan again and surprisingly the hospital wasn't too busy, so they could check how far Logan was dilated almost immediately. "You've reached 4cm." The nurse said happily looking at both Logan and Patton. Logan looked relieved he had finally dilated that far. "So you still have quite a while yet but we can house you and your partner here until your little one comes."
"The other father will be here in about an hour." Logan breathed out, seeming a little more relaxed now he knew labour was coming and stroking his belly instead of clutching it. The midwife looked confused until Patton further clarified.
"I'm just Logan's friend helping out. Logan's partner is just on his way." The midwife seemed happy at that and left the room for a second so Logan and Patton could talk. "Now, I can stay here if you want or I can leave until the father comes. Which would you like?"
"Uh... Stay for now. But maybe in the waiting room?" Logan spoke as if he was ashamed of what he wanted for Buddy's birth, but Patton didn't mind leaving the magical moment here. Logan had previously clarified he didn't want an audience to watch his birth. "Thank you so much for the help though Pat."
Patton smiled wide and clutched Logan's hand before standing up. "No problem Logie. Tell me if you need anything else."
Like the rest of the hospital the waiting room was surprisingly peaceful. Other couples and singles were coming in for their checks or deliveries and the idea that this hospital was full of the first graders in six years time that Patton would end up teaching made the young teacher smile. But he smiled even more when he spotted Virgil run through the doors and straight to the front desk.
"Hey, hey, sorry - Is Logan Sanders here? I'm the father." Virgil spoke quickly and panicked, only reassured when he saw Patton out the corner of his eye. The nurse immediately told Virgil which ward Logan was in, and Virgil walked hastily there but diverted to Patton for a second. "Thanks for driving Lo here. Is he OK?"
Patton was almost screeching as he saw the excited grin on Virgil's face that he was trying to hide. "He's happy as he can be, but he'll be happier now you're here. I'm so proud you're here."
And with one last hug Virgil ran off towards the wards, and a few hours later Logan put a picture in the group chat of a little round-faced baby dressed in a blue hat and a rainbow onesie saying 'Buddy'. The group all met at Logan's house once he was discharged and spoilt Buddy a billion times. In that moment the final surprise was given - that Virgil was the father and the pair were going to enter an exclusive monogamous relationship. Everyone was overjoyed at that news and both Logan and Virgil got hugs from Patton that almost strangled them.
