Mitch walked through the school doors, a whole 45 minutes early just like him and Jerome always did. It was like religion, their friends would show up 15 minutes early. He got half an hour alone with Jerome, whom he might have the hugest crush on.

Mitch walked down the halls, his earbuds playing a song that described him perfectly. It's stupid really. He was oh so obsessed with his best friend, who was probably straight. Jerome had had girlfriends in the past, god had they killed him. But Jerome, Jerome made him feel like he was finally living again.

Mitch had always let Jerome read him like a book, he was open to any understanding he wanted. He was better than a book though, because he responded. He was ready to offer Jerome his heart, he deserved it. Jerome had helped Mitch through times where everyone had given up. He needed to know the truth, even if it killed him.

He was going to tell Jerome. As he began to approach their meeting spot, he took out one earbud and his phone. He went to go pause the music as he got closer to their hallway.

Mitch turned the corner and the whole world froze. Jerome was pinning some girl against the wall, kissing her. No struggling, nothing. Mitch dropped his phone and earbuds, the glass shattering like his heart. He spun the corner and ran off, done with it all.

Jerome and the girl split for air, looking around to check for some sense of time. Jerome's eyes landed on Mitch's phone, pieces of screen scattered around it with his earbuds knotted within. Only one thing left his mouth:
