A/N: Ready for another Mashup? I thought I'd prod things from a different angle ;-)
The two firefighters never got to talk about what they tried to talk about in the firetruck on their way back from the owl retrieval call-out. After Firefighter Brett nearly lost control of the firetruck twice, he was so embarrassed, he practically fled from the truck upon their return to their fire station and cleverly dodged and avoided Firefighter Eddy for the rest of their shift. This was a first.
While things seemed to have gone back to normal from the following day, ever since Firefighter Eddy heard Zookeeper Brett's words about his colleague Firefighter Brett highly likely to be crazy about him, Firefighter Eddy started to become more aware of the subtle things about his colleague Brett. Firefighter Brett had also become very self-conscious about his crush on his colleague. As a result, the duo was acting rather weird around each other.
"Mate, why are you guys behaving like a couple of 14 year old girls?"
"WTF, I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Yeah, WTF who're y'calling 14 year old girls?!"
"OMG it's like I've poked a bees nest.. will ya two calm down?!"
"Hello, Eddy?"
"Yes. Who's this, may I ask?"
"It's Brett Yang."
OMG
"Oh, um, hi Brett, how are you?"
"Good thanks. It was good to meet you at the competition. And thanks again for all the stuff you did for me with your uniform."
"Likewise and you're welcome"
These two met at a martial arts competition. Brett was the chief judge as he was the highest ranked blackbelt of their martial arts school and Eddy also a senior instructor of the school.
"Look, Eddy, sorry to suddenly call you but I was wondering if you would like to join me as an instructor for a self-defence masterclass I'm running for the fire brigade."
"...That sounds InTeReStInG."
Eddy's voice hitched at the end out of nervousness.
"...Eddy, you ok?"
"Yes, I'm fine. Absolutely."
"So.. is that a yes?"
"Yes. Yes, it is a yes."
"Brett?"
Firefighter Brett was walking down the corridor and when he looked up he was startled to see Firefighter Eddy standing in front of him. So close to him.
"...What?"
"Will ya stop avoiding me like the plague and talk to me?"
"I... I gotta go."
"Go where ?"
"I gotta go... apply for.... this thing..."
'What thing..?"
"...this..."
Brett's eyes shifted from nervousness. He randomly pointed at a poster on the wall.
Self-defence masterclass.
The corners of Eddy's mouth turned up. He leaned into the bulletin board where the poster was displayed.
"Sounds good. Will you sign me up, too?"
"Um.. yeah, sure. Of course."
Brett made an about-turn and walked away.
Eddy face palmed himself. He didn't want to tease Brett and embarrass him. He knew he had a habit of doing so and he always thought it was all in good humour but he now realised it was bad taste if Brett actually had feelings for him.
Or maybe he doesn't and I've got it all wrong...
And regardless of whether Brett did or didn't have feelings for him, Eddy wasn't sure what to make of his own feelings yet.
Instructor Eddy opened the passenger side of Instructor Brett's car and peered in.
"Brett."
Brett looked up from his phone and smiled.
"Eddy. Good morning."
"Good morning. Thank you for picking me up."
"No probs. This coffee is yours."
"Oh wow. Thanks, Brett I really needed one..!"
"Oh and before I forget...."
Brett reached over to the backseat of the car.
"This.. is for you."
Brett grabbed a brand-new martial arts uniform jacket in a plastic bag and handed it to Eddy.
"Wow Brett, you didn't have to..."
It was the same brand as the uniform jacket Eddy ended up trimming the sleeves for Brett. Eddy secured his coffee cup into the drink holder and looked at the packaged uniform jacket.
"OMG Brett.. you got me the gold label?? Mine was only the silver label of this brand..!"
Eddy knew such an upgrade would cost much more.
"Eddy, it's the least I can do considering what you've done for me."
Eddy had helped out Brett at a competition when he found out Brett had his uniform tampered with and damaged. Eddy had cut the sleeves of his own spare competition uniform to shorten them to suit Brett so that he could wear it for his demonstration.
"But Brett, you didn't even end up with a decent uniform afterwards..! The one you ended up with was what I've been wearing for a while and the hem of the sleeves aren't even stitched up. It doesn't even have your name embroidered in it... wait a second..."
Eddy quickly pulled out the brand new jacket and unfolded it. Sure enough, at the base of the lapel, was the most beautifully embroidered letters that spelt Chen.
"OMG... where did you get this done..? This font looks amazing.. and the thread.. it's not black.. but a dark silver..?? It looks fantastic...!!!"
Brett smirked.
"I've got my own special embroiderer. I have a special reel of thread on hold under my name and have told them I only ever want it used for my stuff, but I thought, what the heck."
"You used your own thread you have on hold with them for this ?"
Brett grinned.
"Yeah. They did get kinda curious who you were."
"I.. I don't know what to say. ..thank you Brett, this is very generous of you."
"Well, I thought it would look professional if we wore these together today at the masterclass?"
"Oh.. yeah, sure.. Absolutely. OMG.. thank you. This looks so great."
Brett grinned.
"You're welcome. Okay, let's get going."
"Good morning and welcome to our self-defence masterclass. My name is Brett and this is my training partner Eddy. We're your instructors for this course."
Instructor Eddy smiled shyly feeling a bit giddy in his brand new uniform which had the beautiful embroidery of his surname done with the matching font and thread to Brett's.
Firefighter Brett and Firefighter Eddy looked at each other, mouth agape. They could almost read what they were thinking off each other's facial expressions.
Oh c'mon no f*cking way... NOT AGAIN !?!?
To be continued.....
