"Oya?" someone spoke.

Willow turned from side to side until the sneer from above grabbed her attention. Behind the open window is a woman with a youthful appearance, sneering like a snake. She glanced at Willow with a teasing eye before closing the window on her face.

Willow easily glazed through the shadow and appeared by the window. On the said room, a cozy couch by the center was the only thing inside. On it is a woman leisurely seated while seeping her wine.

"What brought you here?" Willow asked in indifference.

"That's common sense. Of course, I caught sniff of them"

"I see, then what happened there?"

"Who knows" she shrugged.

Willow only stared at her and didn't utter a word. After an eternity of staring, the woman finally gave in and spoke with a smirk.

"It's natural that I am here because my intel told me that today's incident has some connection with them. I don't know your case but better not meddle."

"That's for me to decide" Willow answered with uninterested look.

She rolled her eyes and smirked. "Then, might as well do me a favor"

"Contemporary with the ceremony a while ago, a body was found on a deserted alley. They say that the scene was covered in blood and it was said that it was caused by the body exploding. I don't know much but my intel told me that the corpse was abandoned at the crypt on the east outskirt" She implied.

"I see." Without a word of farewell, Willow left.

The woman on the other hand calmly sip on goblet and didn't bother following. "Now, what are you up to?"

Upon descending the crypt, Willow noticed how her magic disappeared. She never knew that this was an ancient place, after all, she was an incompetent ruler who doesn't even check on her territory. And so far, only lost artifacts has the ability to cancel magic. There are still unsolved mysteries about magic so she was not bothered much.

By the time she descended at the foot of the stairs, she narrowly missed the outline of two people doing who knows at the center of the crypt. Willow stealthily hid herself behind a pillar and waited for them to leave.

Sturdy pillars of draconian architecture supported the wide-open area, rows of sarcophagi were aligned on the wall and on the center was a slab of stone. Torches were already lit so Willow was able to see the outline of her surrounding.

"I shall bring this back to the lab. Stand guard outside and don't let anyone enter."

A familiar voice dug at Willow's memory and her suspicion was solved when both passed by her. But before they could pass Willow, Marquis Vanderdeck, glanced at her direction and seemingly met her eye. Willow furrowed her brow at the bizarre reaction but remained calm. She was perfectly cloaked in deep darkness so there's no way that he could see through her.

After inspecting that there was no imminent threat, Willow went near the slab. She anticipated a corpse behind the cloth but what surprised her was not the messy inside nor the unimaginable limbs barely intact with the body. It was the head that surprised her.

Without a doubt, infront of her was the mistress with a mangled physique - the red hair that seemingly burned like the fiery sunset was covered with thick grease; her bright full lips was now chapped and even discolored; those fierce eyes that used to glare daggers has sunken and her left eye was even hollowed; her natural porcelain skin that allured everyone was now covered with bruises, laceration, and even sign of poisoning.

When it was mentioned that somebody bursted, she expected it to be an explosion but there was not a single trace of burns on the body. Though, instead of burnt marks, Monique's skin were peeling off.

"How did this happen?" she closely inspected the corpse that once resembled the proud woman who made her life miserable.

"Make any funny move and I'll sleet your throat. Did you expect that I can't sense your feeble presence?"

Willow was nothing extraordinary. How can she notice someone closing on to her when she was completely occupied at the scene in front of her.

"Is it right to assume that you're the culprit?"

"Now slowly put your hands on the air and turn around."

Willow didn't dare to look back. The hood completely covered half of her face but she was able to see the scuttering feet encircling her.

Before she entered, she made sure that no one was close by. It only means that she was really seen even on the veil of darkness.

Willow could easily loose them with her magic but that is a as good as revealing herself.

In that split moment of slowly turning back, Willow devised the most efficient plan and started to run towards the exit instead of stopping at the marquess's front. That moment caught them by surprise and they froze for a second.

"Apprehend her!" The marquis shouted as he was amazed at how she stealthily avoided his blade. The que made them alert and they prepared themselves for the battle.

Willow continued to force her way out while avoiding their swords and counter atacking with a little bit of martial arts. She was grazed all over her body by the time she reached the foot of the stairs but she didn't even flinch.

She continuously parried the swords aimed at her neck while slowly climbing the stairs.

Even if she was extra careful to watch her back, she didn't expect a blade of fire to attack from the entrance. Due to her proximity from the entrance, she was still cut before the magic was nullified by the crypt. She clenched her teeth in pain and was slightly knocked forward by the momentum. This was anticipated by the vanguards and they took the opportunity to point their swords on her.

Even at the dire situation, Willow didn't lose hope and continued to parry at both sides, she was cornered on the wall and was being over powered when she sensed another attack attack from the entrance, she leaped as high as she could and made their heads her stepping stone back to the inside of the crypt. The fire slash that was aimed at her lit the place for a while before being nullified. This moment of sudden flash blinded everyone. While clenching her eyes, she instinctively run further in as groans echoed at her back.

She efficiently utilized the sarcophagus and pillars as stepping stone and defense, with this Willow managed to knock a remarkable amount of knights. She hid, panting behind a pillar and tended the deepest cut on located at her side. She immediately removed her burnt robe and quickly tied it around her waist then swiftly jump back in action. The remaining fellow was determined to have her head.

Now that their numbers had significantly dwindled, the knights no longer hold back and are now out to kill her because they deemed her strength to be a threat.

But of course, Willow didn't let her self be slain before she can even achieve her goals. With their numbers lowered, she somehow made it out of the crypt but this time, it was not fire that greeted her, it was another platoon that warmly welcomed her.

This is absurd, is this how curiosity killed the cat?
