I was washing clothes, mine and Renesmee's, and thinking.

Rosalie wanted a child, but I had to unlock my powers before I could give her them-will it so that I could conceive if I wished. Didn't I owe her-owe all the Cullens-the complete honesty they'd showed me? My thoughts argued, the half that wanted to keep my secret and the half that wanted to tell Esme and Carlisle and Edward and Renesmee and Rosalie and Emmett and Alice and Jasper... the part that loved them all as siblings, parents, daughters, and something more.

"Momma, I know Daddy's gone, but I know you, too, and you're upset about something. what's wrong?" Renesmee asked.

"Nothing, Love. just adult things." I told her.

"I hate adult things..." Nessie murmured. I laughed.

"You grow used to it." I assured her. "Believe me, I've been there. You get let in when you prove to your father you're ready, and I'll just have to live with it." I explained.

"Ha." Nessie muttered, leaving. Jacob would be very, very upset with me for annoying her, but he could do what he wanted, Renesmee wouldn't let him hurt me.

It was then that I realized: in my dreams of the tiny, angelic little girl, she'd been porcelain pale, she'd glimmered slightly in the sun, and the woman with bronze hair had been far too young for her grandmother. The woman in my dreams was never Eliza, but Renesmee. Her skin had glinted because she was a vampire-not an immortal child, but very close.

She was mine and Edward's almost-vampire daughter all along.
