When I wake up, Jonah is beside me.
"Hello," he says briskly. "How are you feeling?"
"Crappy," I groan.
"That's good, considering you almost got stabbed to death by an arrow," Jonah replies, before releasing a tired sigh.
I stare at him for a second. "Um, this might be a little rude, but aren't you supposed to be dead?" I ask. "Oh wait, am I dead? Are we both dead together?"
He rolls his eyes. "No, I'm not dead. No, you aren't dead. And no, we aren't both dead together."
"But Melody killed you!" My voice trails off, eyes narrowed. "Did you lie about the surrendering thing?"
"No," Jonah says. "I didn't lie. Melody didn't actually get me. She tried to stab me, but I rolled out of the way, threw a distracting powder in her direction, then threw cranberry juice on the ground."
I raise an eyebrow. "That worked? Jeez."
He shrugs. "The cranberry juice was mixed with something else, so it looked kind of like blood."
"You're resourceful," I say, admiring him, "for not having any abilities."
Jonah flashes me a smirk. "Who said I don't have abilities?"
