Newt smiled as he fidgeted his fingers, something he did when he was nervous. His mind wandering back to the same thing over and over again or someone. Her.

He still remembered the day he first saw her,

Being in a new place was hard for Newt, to remember places and figure out his was through the crowds. He looked around, desperate to find his way back to his new home, only to find a small coffee shop. Realizing that he needed a break anyway, he stumbled his way through the crowd and entered the place, with a sound ringing from the now opened door. He searched for an empty booth and found one just around the window. Not looking in front, he bumped into someone sending him and the person to the ground. He looked up and his breath hitched. There lay on the ground was a girl, the most beautiful girl, he had ever seen. Her h/c hair sprawled across her face, her e/c eyes shining between her hair. Her lips mouthing something furiously, but Newt couldn't hear anything, he was lost, too lost looking at her to see anything.

He broke out of his trance, as the mysterious girl waved her hand in front of his eyes, wanting his attention.  He blinked and quickly got up, offering her a hand.

"I'm so sorry love." He started. "I wasn't looking where I was going...." He stopped rambling as an amused chuckle escaped her lips. Her eyes lit up and so did his world. Her laughs were like a melody. Something you could never stop hearing. Before he could stop himself, he felt heat rise up his neck, and he ignored the flutters from inside his stomach.

"I am the one who ruined your shirt by my coffee and you're apologizing?" She asked in an angelic voice, her eyes held an amused glint. She titled her head as a smirk formed by her lips, her arms crossed around her chest. "I guess I forgive you then. But, it will take more than that to make up to me."
New blushed at her words but quickly replied, "And what may be that?"
"You look new here. Why don't I buy you a coffee and may be show you around if you want?"
"I'd have to accept you on that offer darling."  At this she leaned closer to his ear, and whispered to him,

"I held your hand and you go in for a hug?" At this point, Newt was as red as a tomato. She smirked and pulled back. "So, do you have a name, or should I just call you 'coffee boy'?"

He smiled and held out his hand. "I'm Newt, nice to meet you."
"y/n." She took his hand. "Y/n L/n"

He chuckled at the memory remembering how flustered he used to get around her. While fidgeting with his fingers his eyes trailed on to wedding ring, and his lips yet again turned into a smile, remembering the night she officially became his.

Pacing back and forth around the room, Newt couldn't seem to calm his nerves. He was sweating like crazy, and pulling his hair as he mumbled under his breath furiously.
"Newt calm the shuck down, you're ruining the suit." Minho, his best friend said.

"How can I calm down Minho? What if something goes wrong? What if she realizes she doesn't love me and leaves? Or what if?"
"hey hey hey!" Thomas cut Newt off, and placed his hands on the boy's shoulders. "Nothing will go wrong okay? We double-checked everything ourselves. And about, y/n? Well, she loves you and would never leave you. Just think about, when you'll see her walk down the aisle."

And he did. But nothing could compare to the moment it actually happened. The second he saw her walking towards him, his insecurities melted away. She looked like an angel who had been sent for the once broken boy. His eyes filled with tears, and his face turned into the biggest grin ever. After, they said their vows, they were officially announced as man and wife. He practically jumped and attached his lips to hers, due to which a squeal escaped her lips into his mouth. He laughed into her mouth and rested his forehead against hers after the kiss, ignoring the cheers and hollers from the audience.

"You're mine now." He whispered to her and looked at her lovingly.

"That I am."
"Daddy why are you crying?" His four year old son, y/s/n asked as he entered the living room. It was at that point he realized the tears leaking down his eyes, and onto his shirt. He hastily wiped them away and stood up.
"I'm fine son. You ready to go?" Y/s/n nodded and trailed behind his father out of the house.

Newt stood at the airport holding his son's hand, and nervously bouncing his foot, his another habit. His eyes were fixed on the ground, only looking up as he heard cheers rung out throughout the airport and applauds filled with the once silent atmosphere. He held up his sign, as y/s/n cheered along with everyone.

The Military officers were now returning home after 6 months of hard work. Hard work they do, so that we can focus on our work. The sleep they lose, so that we can sleep peacefully. The time they spend away from their loved ones, so that we spend our time with our loved ones. The life which they put at stake, so that countless of lives are safe. After all this, they do deserve an applause don't they?

Newt immediately looked around for his beloved wife and his eyes connected with e/c ones. Tears once again welled up in his eyes, as he took his son's hand in his, and walked towards her. y/s/n yanked his hand away from his father's grip and ran towards his mother, chanting, "Mummy". Newt ran after him and saw as y/s/n jumped on her mother who sat him on her hip. He ran towards them and took both of them in his arms. Tears were streaming down all of their faces, as y/s/n was being crushed between his parents' hug. He didn't seem to mind though, he was glad to finally be reunited with her mother after 6 months throughout which she could have died at any point. He held onto her for his dear life. Newt could see how much his son missed her mother, and couldn't help think what could happen if one day she doesn't return home.

"I love you both so much." He managed to choke out.

"I love you both too so much." Y/n whispered.

And she did. He knew she did. Probably not as much as she loved her country. But that was enough for him.

Hey guys! This story was written to honor the people who risks their lives for us everyday. This is an early Independence Day gift to all the Indians, from us two. Let's remember the ones who we lost during the war to reach where we are. We wouldn't have existed without them.
