"Enemy marksmen on the roof!" The man in police uniform shouted before grabbing Grantaire's gun and shooting the men on the roof. Shots are exchanged until all becomes silent.

"Thank you Monsieur." Enjolras says, turning to the man who had just saved his life.

"Give me no thanks Monsieur. There is something you can do." The counterfeit officer states. "If it is in my power." Enjolras replies.

"Give me the spy Javert. Let me take care of him." The supposed marble man looks to the spy and then back to the man.

"Do what you have to- the man belongs to you." Enjolras says as he hands the man a knife. The uniformed man nods and grabs the spy, taking him into a hidden alleyway. Enjolras then turns to his army.

"The enemy may be regrouping! Hold yourselves in readiness! Come, my friends, back to your positions! The dawn is breaking fast-"

"Y/N!"

All the boys turn their heads to see Gavroche staring at a bloody Y/n with fear in his eyes. "Y/n..." Enjolras mumbles before weaving his way through the group of men to reach his fiancé. Y/n is on the floor with red palms over her chest.

"Y/n!" Enjolras now yells and finally reaches his love. He immediately bends down and frantically touches her arms and face, not caring about the blood that paints them. Rain begins to fall and drench the cobblestone and boys. Enjolras lays on his knees and cradles a quiet Y/n.

"Y/n?" Her head slightly falls to the side but he catches it. "Hey! Hey! Y/n! Hey! Breathe. Hey, Y/n." His voice breaks. "Hey. You're okay." He tries to convince himself that she isn't deceased. He continues to try and wake her.

"Y/n?" He whispers.

He begins to weep. He brushes her hair out of her face. "Stay with me. Stay with me. Stay with me. Stay with me. You stay with me." He says, sternly at the end. "Y/n?" He calls with crack in his voice.

"Y/n! No! Please! Please!" He sobs and let's out all of the tears. He cries into her neck and holds her even closer. The boys watch from behind Enjolras and begin to tear up themselves. His tears fall onto her neck, matching the hard rain that fell on top of them.

"...I can't do this without you" he mumbles into her neck.

Blood drips off of her ring and onto the wet cobblestone as everybody cries over the motivation of the revolution. The blood moved through the rocks like how a river flows. The mix of gore and water moved around the boys' feet and Enjolras' sobbing form. There she laid, lifeless in the arms of the man that she loved. He kisses her forehead with tightly squinted eyes. Tears fell faster as his lips touched her pale skin.

Nobody spoke that night. It was a peculiar sadness that lingered over the barricade. Grantaire had no bottle in his hand, Gavroche wasn't running around with Courfeyrac, there was zero laughter among the men and Enjolras was in the meeting room of the café crying.

He held Y/n's shawl close to him as he sat on the floor, up against the wall sobbing.
