Sundew POV:

"She's gone!" a LeafWing cried.

Luna, Winter and the other two dragons whipped around, trying to track Queen Wasp.

The six of them had just finished defeating the HiveWings in the square when Sundew heard Willow scream. It was unmistakable, and she had shoved her way through thrashing limbs to get there first.

Queen Wasp had been there, laughing her head off as Sundew chewed the disgusting plant to soothe the fire ant bites. But there were so many, and there weren't enough plants. She only managed to chew and spit seven before Willow's eyes closed, and another two before she stopped breathing.

At the moment, Sundew was brushing off the horrible ants, not caring about the few bites she had received all over her arms. Because Willow was dead.

Luna came over, putting a not-so-reassuring hand on her shoulder. Winter and the other LeafWings were now spreading out, knocking over furniture and all, trying to find the HiveWing queen.

No such luck. She had seemingly vanished into thin air. One LeafWing dispatched to guard the HiveWings they had subdued, although the should have been unconscious. No one wanted to take any chances.

"Sundew," Luna said softly. "We have to go,"

Sundew ignored her. She chewed and spit all the anti-fire ant plants she had left—no matter hove imprudent that was—and put them on Willow's scales, even though it was useless. Luna didn't object, but when she was done, the SilkWing began gently tugged on her arms, trying to get her to leave.

"Not without her," Sundew whispered. She commanded the vines that decorated the archway into the queen's chambers into a sort of coffin, Willow resting inside. The fires were spreading to this floor, so the other dragons hurried to toss the HiveWings they had captured out a window (ouch) and make a getaway. Sundew let Willow out before herself, even if she scorched her tail a bit.

The vines crawled down the side of the burning Hive behind Sundew, and when it got to the ground, was carried around by the savanna grass, the end of the vine cut off so no one could follow them. Luna told Winter and the other LeafWings to join the battle, telling everyone that Wasp was not dead yet, and that they should try to finish things up quickly. They split up, one dragon going to a certain Hive to spread the word.

Luna probably knew that Sundew's grief could get in the way of her fighting, so she ordered her to the small clearing they had found, shrouded well by tall trees. The LeafWings finding Sundew's father and his team were supposed to be there already, getting supplies ready for patients needing treating and making stretchers to carry badly injured dragons across the ocean in the need of a quick getaway.

Luna then went to join the battle, waving at Sundew to go. She flew as fast as possible with Willow trailing on the ground below her, because if Luna won't let her fight, then she'd have to make the stretchers out of seaweed. And an extra special one for Willow as well.

Half an hour later, she was exhausted but there, in the clearing. Her father, not one to be the sentimental type, took one look at the coffin-like thing, glanced at his daughter, and swept out of there after an awkward pat on Sundew's shoulder.

She couldn't blame him, to be fair. They were never close. At least he was agreeing to the plan, and hopefully he knew that most of the village was under the breath of evil's hive-mind thing. Including Belladonna.

Sundew saw a group of wildflowers growing a short ways off, and wandered over, choosing only the most beautiful flowers to decorate Willow's coffin. She spent an hour on it, despite everyone's protests on how beautiful it already was and how she should probably work a little bit, at least.
