A part of Noa felt awful after the argument with Percy. Most of the time she felt sympathy for him, having to take on a burden he never wanted and possibly losing everything in the process. But the rest of the time she felt only frustration for the soon-to-be-King.

She sometimes wondered if he was a magnet for trouble. Everywhere he went, trouble followed like a loyal pet. She even wondered if Percy had decided to feed it snacks which ended up attracting more trouble.

But whatever anger she felt had evaporated. She wasn't one to be mad at someone for long. She never held grudges and sometimes wondered what it was like to hold a grudge against someone like most people did, having her life fueled with anger and vengeance. She supposed it was a blessing to be so carefree and born with an adventurer's heart.

If only she could venture to the surface, she thought sadly. There was not a corner of the underwater world she hadn't seen with her own two eyes but she had never been on land. She could only watch the mortals a distance away from the ocean but never be able to set foot there due to being a mermaid. The surface was a new adventure and she was dying to explore it.

The door to Percy's room was ajar, as it always was. Noa didn't know why Percy always forgot to close his doors. Someday, she would have to reprimand him about it.

For now, it didn't matter.

Percy's chambers were absolutely secured. Well, mostly secured. Noa's powers could only go so far. She had spent all her powers to raise invisible shields around his chambers, preventing any sea demons, wild creatures, or any other spells from attacking Percy from the outside.

And she was tired and cranky.

Her powers were completely spent and it worried her sometimes. She usually kept a shield around herself just in case but she had to use every ounce of magic to protect Percy. When the young god was around, she placed a shield around him but she couldn't do it when he was out of her sight and it caused her more panic every time he wasn't beside her.

If anything happened to him...

She didn't want to think about that. She owed Amphitrite a debt and Amphitrite had come to collect it by hiring her to protect Percy, to be his secret personal bodyguard, and Percy could not know of that fact unless absolutely necessary. Percy wasn't even aware of the fact that she had powers. If Noa had to be honest, she wasn't doing a wonderful job.

Percy didn't know that, but Noa had a reputation for being one of the best protectors in Atlantis. She had protected lords, wealthy families and even posed as Poseidon's bodyguard for a short while until she quit this life and became an adventurer. She couldn't let her reputation be tarnished now.

You have one job, Noa, she thought glumly. One job. Get it done and you'll be free again.

But Noa liked Percy, as a friend. She never developed a fondness for her clients but she had to admit Percy could be charming when he wanted to and he made a better friend than she'd expected.

That night the sea demon hybrid almost breached her shields, Noa had panicked. She had lied to Percy, not to save her reputation but to not freak him out. Percy worked better when he was calm and Noa figured Percy had enough burdens on his shoulders. Besides, the sea creature's appearance was her fault and carelessness that caused it. If she had paid more attention, it wouldn't have appeared in the first place...

Unless someone ordered it too. Unease filled Noa at the thought. She could only think of someone that had complete control over the sea creatures, Naguel. But it was impossible. Naguel was one of Atlantis' most trusted advisors and warriors no matter how evil he might seem unless both Poseidon and Noa were wrong about him too.
