Chapter Twenty-Four: La Elegancia

I woke up to the glorious sound of birds chirping blissfully outside my bedroom window. Scratch that, to the sound of my Aunt's loud voice echoing throughout the house and being viciously shaken awake by my mother.

I groaned, covering my face with my soft pillow. Couldn't I just sleep a little longer?

"No Naomi, you can't."

Did I just say that out loud?

"Naomi," said my mother again. "You need to get ready, it's half past eight! Your Aunt's already here and she's nervous about everything needing to be perfect."

"Okay, okay," I said removing the pillow from my face. "I'll be downstairs in ten... Fifteen."

"Alright, but be quick okay?" replied my mother.

She left the room and I forced myself to get up. I groaned again, realising I had no idea what to wear. I noticed my mum wearing a dress and I knew my Aunt would send me back upstairs if I came down in anything other than a dress, so looks like dress it was.

I opened my closet and a bunch of clothes fell out onto my face. Probably should clean out my closet sometime. I went through my dresses one by one, but none stuck out to me. You know those days where you just have no idea what to wear, so you end up getting out every single item of clothing you own and chucking them onto your bed before you finally come to the conclusion half and hour later that 'there's nothing!'? Yep I could feel that feeling coming on but I didn't have half an hour - I had to choose something, now.

I sighed before grabbing out a black dress, after all you can't go wrong with a 'little black dress' right? The dress was an a-line, halter with black laced sleeves extending to my elbow. I ran to the shower with the dress realising I now only had ten minutes. Afterwards I went back to my room quickly, tying my hair up in a messy bun quickly and dabbing a bit of concealer and mascara on. Next step, shoes. Maybe Aunt Cat would approve more of my look if I was wearing the shoes she got me for my birthday last year? I went to my closet and got out the tall sparkly silver platforms Aunt Cat had given me, which were about five inches tall.

I then went over to my desk, shoes in hand and got out a silver necklace to match the shoes. Finally, I left the room going downstairs quickly.

I entered the kitchen to find my mother fixing up Lucas's mini blue bowtie, my father and uncle chugging down their breakfast quickly and my Aunt Catalina walking around the room in her high heels while talking on the phone. I went over to my father, "Got any more of that?" I asked looking down at his plate of hash browns and eggs.

"Yeah, there's a plate over by the microwave."

"Thanks dad." I placed my shoes down and went over to the plate. Before I could take a bite my Aunt got off the phone and spoke to us all, murmuring something about 'needing to leave now, before they ruin everything over there', whoever 'they' were. It's safe to say I don't think I've eaten breakfast so fast in my life. Soon enough we were all out the door and travelling to wherever the 'La Elegancia' show was being held.

I plugged my earphones into my phone for the journey. Thank gosh for the invention of earphones. If I didn't have them I would have to suffer through a two hour car journey with nothing but my father's fantastic taste in music to entertain me.
