Chapter 10

Realization

Percy's PoV

To say dinner wasn't awkward would be a complete lie, Artemis decided that the hunters and Warriors would eat dinner together so they are more comfortable around each other.

So we were all sitting around the campfire, eating dinner with one another, the Hunters and Warriors sat as far away from each other as possible, they were glaring at each other the entire time.

But then the glaring shifted from each other to Artemis and I when she came out of her tent and sat on the log beside me.

The hunters were glaring daggers at me and the Warriors were giving Artemis looks of confusion and suspicion. The hunters seemed surprised at Artemis and were looking at her as if she was a ghost.

We ate dinner in silence and Artemis was ignoring all the looks thrown at her while I just sat there awkwardly.

After dinner the Warriors went back to their side and the hunters went back to theirs. Artemis told me to wait for her near the river. I wonder why.

I walked towards the river and stood waiting, I looked up and saw the moon, it was beautiful. Just like Artemis, I thought. I knew it was wrong, but I was falling for her, hopelessly, there was no way she would reciprocate the feelings, I would just have to admire her from afar.

I sighed.

That's when Artemis appeared, she sat down at the bank of the river and motioned for me to sit. I sat down beside her, carefully she shifted a little closer to me, I could feel her breath on my neck, my heart was pounding loudly, I didn't know what to do.

"Tired?", she asked

"Not really", I replied after a moment

"So, I think we should ask the hunters and Warriors to work together, it's important for them to cooperate.", she said.

She sighed and rested her head on my shoulder acting as if this was completely natural, and maybe for her it was, we were friends after all, at least I think we are, she didn't have feelings for me so this interaction was not so bad for her but it was for me, whenever I was around her, I couldn't help but fall hopelessly in love with her.

"Perseus?"She Said and I looked at her

"Do you think we're friends?", she asked me

"Of course", I replied though I was upset we couldn't be anything more.

"But you have to call me Percy, it's what all my friends call me", I told her.

She just chuckled and got up, I followed. I didn't process what happened next, she leaned towards me and gently kissed my cheek, "Good night Percy"

"Good Night Artemis", I said as I left.

Artemis's PoV

Well that was one step closer, at least we are friends now, what did he think when I kissed his cheek? Did he think I was a slut like Aphrodite? No way, I am probably overthinking this, I should go to sleep, why are feelings so confusing?!

I walked back to my tent and went inside, the wolves were on guard duty, I crashed onto my bed but no matter what I tried, my thoughts always shifted back to Percy. I wonder what he thought of the kiss. Or more importantly...

What did he think of me?

Thalia's PoV

Spying on Artemis was not what I was planning to do, but now there I was a few minutes ago stuck with Jake perched on a tree and watching Percy and Artemis.

Wanna know how it happened? It was after dinner.

Flashback

I was walking back to my tent when I heard some noise behind me, I saw Jake casually leaning against a tree.

"What're you doing here!", I exclaimed

"Come on, I need help spying on Percy and Artemis", he said. I looked at him with a 'have you lost it?' Expression.

He just grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the river, we climbed on top of a tree. What I saw next was shocking.

(Feel free to skip ahead, it's the same thing)

Artemis appeared, she sat down at the bank of the river and motioned for Percy to sit. He sat down beside her, carefully she shifted a little closer to him.

"Tired?", she asked

"Not really", Percy replied after a moment

"So, I think we should ask the hunters and Warriors to work together, it's important for them to cooperate.", she said. What! No way! I refuse to work with them, I thought.

She sighed and rested her head on his shoulder acting as if this was completely natural, and maybe for her it was, they were friends after all, at least I think they were.

"Perseus?"She Said and He looked at her

"Do you think we're friends?", she asked him, Is this really the Artemis I know? The man-hating hunter?

"Of course", He replied

"But you have to call me Percy, it's what all my friends call me", Percy told her. Not true, I call him kelp head

She just chuckled and got up, He followed. Me and Jake didn't process what happened next, she leaned towards Percy and gently kissed my cheek, "Good night Percy"

"Good Night Artemis", He said as he walked back.

Jake and I looked at each other as if shocked, "We shouldn't tell the others right away, let's ask them if they like each other first, and also ask the Warriors and hunters what they think if the two started dating", I told him.

"Good idea, I will ask the Warriors what they think of Percy being in a relationship and try to convince them it is completely fine", he said. I nodded "I will do the same", I told him

"Then we can each ask Percy and Artemis if they like each other", I said and he agreed.

"So, let me know what happens", I tell him

"You too", he says and rushes back to his campsite.

Well, let's see how this plays out, I thought.
