Unexpected Love

•Chapter Twenty-Eight•

That night at dinner everyone ate in silence, occasionally Miya would look at her parents. You could cut the tension with a knife, that's how bad it was. "So Mom and Dad will you be staying through New Years?" Miya spoke up. She tired to make conversation so everyone could get comfortable.

"We weren't planning on it" her mother spoke. "We planned on going to Africa, your father has been wanting to go for some time now" she said before eating once again.

"I've been to Africa once" Reece said. "I loved eating with the giraffes" he added.

"Wish I could eat with giraffes" Ell muttered. She didn't eat much that night, she just kept playing with her food.

"Seems weird to me" Mykie shrugged. "They'll probably eat your food or something" she said.

Miya's father coughed a little, his mind was going. He didn't understand why his daughter would pick a man like that? The only reason he was holding his tongue was because his wife asked him.

"Are you okay dad?" Miya asked. Oh boy, why did she ask him that.

"Actually Miya, I'm not alright" he placed his fork down. "I don't think you should be with this man" he said looking up.

"Paul, you promised" her mother said.

"I'm sorry honey but you might think this is normal but I don't" Paul said. "What happened to Zack? He was a good guy. Now you're dating this criminal" he looked at Nick.

"Dad please, Zack wasn't who you think he was" Miya pleaded with him.

"Oh stop Miya, every good man you run away from" Paul said. "You've done this many of times, I will not support you on this. Zack was a good man and you ran him away like the others" he added.

"Thanks for being such a supporting parent" Miya got up and left. She ran away with tears falling down her face.

"I'll go check on her" Mykie said. She got up then grabbed Ell by the hand taking her upstairs.

"That was uncalled for sir" Nick said. He grew angry at the fact this man didn't listen to Miya, he looked at Paul. "Trust her decision, I bet you didn't even know Zack nearly beat her to death. I was the one to save her, where were you? Oh let me guess, sitting on your throne" Nick stood up which caused the chair to fly back. "I'm sorry sir but I love Miya more than any girl I've ever met, I would die for her" he said.

"Nick I think you should go for a walk" Reece stood up. He knew dinner was going to turn out like this, he just hoped it would be after he ate.

"No Reece, let him talk" Paul stood up. The man knew he could tear this mortal apart if he wanted to. "Come on boy" he said.

"Enough!" his wife stood up. "This was suppose to be a happy moment but you're ruining it Paul" she yelled.

Just when Paul was going to yell, Ell came running inside the dinning room. "Miya is bleeding!" she yelled.

Nick quickly rushed out of the room, he was the first upstairs. He immediately seen Miya in her own pool of blood. He couldn't move, the past started to drill in his head. When he was in forest care, one of the families he lived with beat one of the other kids they lived there. He shivered at the thought but knew he needed to push that to the back of his head. His girlfriend was in trouble so he needed to help her. Nick jumped into action, he lifted Miya up.

"What happened to her?" her mother was terrified.

"I don't know we just started to talk and she felt something wet, looked down and blood came out" Mykie tried not to panic.

Miya was going in and out of consciousness, she looked up at Nick. "I'm sorry" she muttered.

"You have nothing to be sorry for" Nick said. He made his way downstairs and out the door, he placed her inside the car. He turned to see Miya's father came runninv out. He got inside the car, Nick decided not to argue with the man. He got inside the car and made his way towards the hospital, as he did snow began to fall again.

Nick got to the hospital with five minutes, he didn't bother parking in a spot. He jumped out the car then went over to get Miya out, luckily she was awake but barely. "I need a doctor!" he yelled.

Soon some nurses and doctors came running out, they placed Miya in bed and took her towards the back room. They had told Nick to stay back, they needed to find out the cause of it. When her father came inside, he just looked at a very distraught Nick. "I don't want to hear it" he said before walking away.

After a while the others arrived at the hospital, they didn't know what was going on. Nick spotted them "one hell of a Christmas eve huh?" he started to breakdown.

Even though Reece didn't like him, he walked over giving Nick a hug. "She'll be fine man" he sounded unsure.

Mykie pulled Ell by her side, she glanced down at the small child. She was even crying. Mykie couldn't help but think about all the horrible things they have endured over the last few months. All she wanted was from them to check a break, even if it was only for a few weeks. She spotted something out the corner of her eye, it was Miya's mother sitting on the bench crying.

Soon the father joined them, she just knew he was going to say something smart but to her surpise he didn't. The man went over to his wife, wrapped his armd around her trying to comfort her.
