Carlisia walked out of class. Finally it was lunch,, which she would probably spend alone. Not that she minded it, but even she knew that a friend would be nice.
She finally remembered David and without a second thought decided to go visit him at the nurse’s office. But then again she didn’t know the way and could probably easily get lost in such a big school.
She looked around her in the crowded halls. Everyone was rushing here and there going to the cafeteria or just roaming not paying attention to her and for a moment she felt happy that she no longer stood out.
Finally a girl caught her attention who was leaning by her locker laughing at something while texting. Carlisia quickly makes her way to her, in hopes that she would tell her directions to the infirmary.
“Excuse me, Can you tell me where the nurse’s office is?” Carlisia asks while gently smiling.
The girl looks up and her eyes widen while dropping the phone. Carlisia looks behind her to see why this girl was acting so nervous.
“Of course Luna, I’ll show you.” She says quickly while bowing her head, quickly walking forward.
“I’m sorry but my name is not ‘Luna’ it’s, ‘Carlisia’.” The human girl says and the girl smiles.
“Of course. It’s very nice to meet you Carlisia.” The girl says stopping in front of a room before turning towards her.
“Here you go.” She replies.
“Thank you.” Carlisia says and the girl shakes her head.
“No need Luna- I mean Carlisia.” She says before scurrying away to god knows where.
Carlisia takes a breath and gently opens the door. Her eyes travel the rather large room which was hiding behind a small door. There were probably thirty of thirty five rows of bed, all empty except the last one at the end which was surrounded by a curtain.
“How may help you dear?” A voice says.
Carlisia looks at the person and finds her to be an old lady, with a wrinkled face and square framed glasses covering her eyes. Her white hair was in a bob and she had a faint pink lipstick on, making Carlisia remind her of her grandmother.
The women was wearing latex gloves and a white coat indicating she was the doctor.
“A guy must have come here somewhere after first period. I came to meet him.” Carlisia says choosing her words carefully so she doesn’t stumble on them.
“Oh, you mean David! Yes, he’s right there at the last bed. He’s completely fine, just a few punch but nothing too much. You know, we heal fast after all.” The lady says oblivious that Carlisia was a human.
“Sorry?” Carlisia asks and the woman looks at her confused, according to her she hadn’t said anything confusing to the girl.
“You know us being-” She begins to say but then cuts off as realization dawns in, she was informed that a human was coming to town.
She lightly sniffs the air and her doubts are confirmed. God, he alpha was going to kill her as she takes in a shaky breath.
“You know how strong we are. Will power. Helps us heal fast. All of us. ” She says collecting demeanor, smiling at her.
Carlisia looks at her and gives her a smile, believing it and makes her way to the end of the room to the bed and finds David sprawled on it, face down groaning.
“David?” Carlisia ask in her normal voice and David turns around to face her,
“Hey.” He replies and Carlisia notices his black eye and blue nose.
Gabriel had later told David not to heal with his werewolf strength so that Carlisia won’t suspect a thing.
This process was more painful and would take days until he was completely healthy but there was nothing he could do. If he defied his Alpha there would be consequences.
However he didn’t seem a bit sorry for beating the crap out of him. Yet he did decide to use Carlisia’s friendship with David to his advantage. Gabriel had ordered him to tell her everything she told him. Every little detail.
David hated the plan. He didn’t want this as the basis of his friendship. He wanted a true friendship with her because sooner or later the truth would come out and then it would hurt Carlisia, a lot. But there was nothing he could do. He couldn’t disobey his Alpha. He wouldn’t even dare.
“Hi.” Carlisia replies looking at him with sympathy. He looked so much in pain.
“So what you doing here?” David asks her not making an attempt to get up and sit. He was in too much pain to dare.
“I came to see you. What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t come to check up on you?” Carlisia says and David chuckles.
“Nice to know were friends now.” He says and Carlisia smiles and nods.
“You’re the only one who has as much as even talked to me.” Carlisia says and David shrugs.
“So are you going to stand there all day or even take a seat?” David says playfully after a few minutes and Carlisia looks for a chair.
Finally spotting it she drags it to his side.
“So how has your day been?” He asks as she settles down.
“My day has been ok. Thank you. You should tell me about yours. Lucky you got to skip the classes.” Carlisia says and David laughs.
“Yeah lucky me. I also got a black eye and blue nose. Comes with the package. Take it or leave it.” He says and she laughs.
“I’d rather take it. We could be neighbors here.” She says and he chuckles.
“So do you like it here? Maybe we could hang out sometime. You know with me, Ruben, Elijah and the guys.”
“That’d be great. I haven’t gotten out much since I moved here.” Carlisia replies.
Her stomach starts to hurt from hunger and she reaches for her bag, to get out the two packets of chips she had.
“You hungry?” She asks David who shrugs.
“Not much.” He replies but still Carlisia throws him the packet.
“I’m not eating alone.” She replies as she opens her packet happily munching on the barbeque flavored crisp.
David opened his and started eating like an animal causing Carlisia to chuckle as she remembered Zane did the same.
“So tell me more about yourself.” David says and with that they indulge in a long conversation about one another.
She found out David was eighteen, the same age as Elijah. Was on the soccer team with her step brothers. Loved pizza and despised olives.
There were thousands of random things which he told her, him doing most of the talking.
Soon the bell rang and David groaned,
“I don’t want to stay here alone!!!” He says dramatically and Carlisia shakes her head.
“I can’t skip classes on the first day of school.” Carlisia replies and he pouts.
“Fine, at least give me you number so I could pester you later on.” He says and they both exchange numbers before bidding each other good bye.
On her way to class she hears someone calling her name.
“God, Carly I have been looking everywhere for you. Where were you at lunch? You didn’t come to the cafeteria.” Ruben says as soon as Carlisia turns around.
“I was visiting David at the nurses’ office.” She replies and Ruben just sighs.
“Ok. Are you hungry? Do you need anything?” He asks and Carlisia shakes her head.
“No thanks.” She replies and he just nods.
“Come on. Let me take you to class.” He replies and Carlisia nods.
The rest of the day went by usual with Carlisia sitting alone throughout each and every class. Gabriel still hadn’t returned and she felt quite happy about it for a matter of fact.
Currently Carlisia was making her way to her locker. School had ended but Ruben and Elijah had soccer practice so she had to wait an hour or two till the practice was over.
After grabbing all the stuff she needed she went made her way to soccer field where they were playing, sitting at the top bleachers.
Ruben notices her and waves at her cheerfully, causing her to smile and give a short wave back.
The wind hits her face and her eyes travel to the cloudy sky, it was going to rain soon.
Her eyes then travelled from the sky to the very few people that were sitting at the bleachers, chatting with their friends, a girl doing homework but what caught her eye was a small girl, probably no more than four years old.
Her blonde hair in two braids while both of her small hands grabbed a juice box. She looked so cute. But what was she doing here alone?
Carlisia stands up grabbing her bag and quietly makes her way to the lower bleacher where the small girl sat. She looked like she was in nursery. There was a colorful peacock on her small backpack as it hung from her back.
Finally near her Carlisia sits beside the girl, who moves her large doe like eyes from the field towards her.
“Hellwo.” She says, her words not coming out properly. As soon as the words left the young girls mouth Carlisia’s face lit up.
“Hi.” Carlisia says looking at her.
“My name is Annabwel.” She says and Carlisia looks at her smiling.
“Well hello Annabel. My name is Carlisia.” She replies extending her hand and gently shaking the small hand that fell into hers.
“So why are you sitting here alone?” Carlisia asks looking at her.
“My bwig bwother is late so his fwiends picked me up so I can watch thwem play till he comes.” Annabel says and sucks at the straw drawing out the juice.
“Oh. So where are your friends?” Carlisia asks her and she folds her arms making a grumpy face.
“Thwey don’t like me because thwey are scawed of my bwother.” She says and slightly pouts, causing Carlisia to look at her with sympathy.
“Well, I can be your friend.” Carlisia says and the little girls face lights up and she jumps into Carlisia’s arms hugging her causing Carlisia to laugh.
Children always brought Carlisia happiness. She didn’t know why but they just always had the biggest place in her heart.
“Do you want anything to eat?” Carlisia asks her and she thinks over it and nods,
“Icecweam.” She says happily and Carlisia nods, remembering she had heard an ice-cream man here somewhere.
“Okay. You stay here and play games on my phone while I go get you your ice cream. Alright?” Carlisia asks and Anna nods.
Carlisia hands her the cell phone, leaving her bag with the girl but grabbing her wallet with her.
She made her way away from the field and across the parking lot just as the clouds roared and the wind hits her face. Her scent filling the air as she approaches the ice cream man.
She quickly purchases the ice cream and places the napkin underneath the huge cone of ice cream she had gotten for that darling girl.
She makes her way to the bleachers and back to Anna who had her tongue out as she concentrated on the game.
“Here you go.” Carlisia says as she is near Anna to get her attention.
As soon as her eyes land on the ice cream her face lights up.
“Thwankyou!” She squeals as Carlisia gives her the cone and gently tucks the napkin in her collar so she doesn’t dirty the front of her shirt.
Suddenly Carlisia begins to hear a loud zooming voice, getting louder and louder, quickly drawing her attention to the road.
No later a sleek black sports car, zoomed in, drifting to a stop at the parking lot, leaving tire marks on the concrete ground.
Carlisia looks at Anna who was happily munching on her ice cream to notice.
She looks back at the car, waiting to see its owner and no later she did. From the driver’s seat of the car the scary tattooed and pierced Gabriel Kane walked out still in his suit, staring straight at the bleachers.
More specifically at her.
Her scent filled Gabriel nostrils, turning him on.
No later there was another booming sound from the sky above and it began to pour. Carlisia quickly looked at Anna, who was trying to protect her ice cream from the rain.
“My ice-cweam!” the young girl whined and Carlisia looks at her worried. She didn’t want to get the poor girl sick even before her family came to pick her up.
Carlisia took off her cardigan quickly placing it over the girls shoulder covering her up as the rain poured quicker. The cold air nipped at the bare skin on her arms, making her question why she wore a crop top in the first place.
She looked towards the field and saw Ruben running towards her, drenching wet.
“I’m sorry Carly but the coach won’t let us go until the training is complete. If you want I can drop you off at home then come back here.” Ruben says and Carlisia shakes her head.
“No its fine. I’ll wait at the library or somewhere.” Carlisia says water droplet pouring down her skin.
“I’ll drop her off on my way home.” A familiar voice says from behind her and Carlisia whips around pushing Anna behind her but what surprised her was how happily she went to Gabriel, grabbing his hand while Gabriel smiled at her.
“Bwig bwother!” She screams running into his arms and Carlisia looks at Gabriel wide eyed.
No wonder the poor girl had no friends.
But then again neither of them shared any similarity.
“Carwisia bought me an icecweam. Look how bwig it is.” She says and Gabriel just nods at her, looking at the three scoop of ice-cream Carlisia had got her. His eyes then land on the cardigan that hanged from his sisters shoulders. It was big and securely wrapped around the little girl protecting her from the rain.
Gabriel then looks at Carlisia who was drenching wet, just in a crop top and a pair of jeans. Her hair was still in the bun since she had in the morning but the strands on her face were dripping wet.
His eyes darken as he looked at her clothes sticking to her skin, then at the little amount of stomach her top left uncovered.
“No thankyou. I can wait.” Carlisia finally replies looking at Ruben then back at Gabriel, who was drenching went, still in his black suit but not bothering to save himself from the rain. His hair sticked to his forehead making his eyes stand out more, he looked like a predator to be honest. And the way he was looking at her, made her feel like a prey.
“Your already wet. You’ll get sick if you don’t change out of your clothes soon. They still have an hour of training left and I can get you home in fifteen minutes.” Gabriel says huskily and Carlisia thinks over it.
She didn’t want to get sick, absolutely not. And to think of it she was getting a headache.
She looks at Ruben who just nods,
“He’s right Carly. You’ll get sick if you wait here.” Ruben says.
Carlisia looks back at Gabriel and asks,
“Ten minutes?” she asks.
“Ten minutes.” Gabriel nods, feeling happy inside.
“I’ll see you later then.” She says and hugs Ruben. The act caught her step brother off guard but later a gentle smile came to his face as he patted her back. Gabriel observed the scene in front of him, it seemed cute.
“Yeah. See you in a few.” He says and she nods.
Carlisia quickly grabs her bag, hoping her books didn’t get wet, but she knew there was a huge chance they did.
