"If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless."

Jasmine

I was sitting on the couch scrolling through my phone when the front door swung open,

"jasmine! what happened, are you okay?" jahking's booming voice entered the house before he did,

"what happened? we got chris's call." latrelle said entering after him,

"some guy named oscar...he told me to tell you that the saints won't rest until the light is restored." I answered,

"fuck!" latrelle hissed, massaging his temples.

"what? who?" jahking asked kneeling down to my level,

"he's one of those fucking santos." chris answered,

"are you okay? did he hurt you?" jahking asked worriedly,

"i'm fine, i'm fine." I said reassuringly.

"what does it mean? what he said, what's it mean?" I asked latrelle,

"it means, we're at war."

"war? why—

jahking cut me off by gently taking me by the hand and pulling me to my feet,

"we need to talk." he said leading me to our bedroom.

"what's wrong? why are you pulling me?" I questioned once we reached our room.

he closed the door behind us and sat me down on the bed,

"I don't want you getting mixed up in all this jas, latrelle's gang war shit has nothing to do with you."

I scoffed and pushed his hand off of me, "but it's okay for you to get involved? I practically never see you because you're always off running the streets with him somewhere."

"that's completely different, and you know it." he countered,

"is it? why did we come all the way here jahking? all you're going to do is get mixed up into more shit, and soon we'll—

"do you trust me?" he asked, taking my hand in his.

"of course I do, you know that."

"so trust me when I say that coming to freeridge was the best decision for us, and that no matter where we go I will always protect you, even if that means I have to be the one to make the hard decisions."

"the hard decisions?" I questioned,

"I don't want you seeing monse again, not if cesar will be around."

I chuckled and shook my head, "that's cute. but you're not my daddy, you know?"

he cocked an eyebrow and rested a hand on my thigh, "really?" he questioned climbing on top of me,

his hands went to wrap around my wrists, pinning them above my head.

"let's find out."

• two weeks later •

"I'm surprised jahking let you out of the house after what happened last time." monse said over the loud music playing in the background,

I shrugged, "I'm a big girl, it's not always his decision."

monse had convinced me to come to a party with her and the gang, upon hearing my attendance, olivia and cesar obviously declined.

which was perfectly fine by me, although this party was kinda lame the music was good and there wasn't any bad vibes within the group like last time.
