Why must you cry every time i try to save you ?

(Y/N) never had it easy, no if anything her life's always been a mess but she'd never admit it to you for that she doesn't want your pitied help.

Some compare her to a mixture of Erza and Natsu, a weird combination right ? She carries Natsus recklessness and Erza and her share similar rough pasts causing them to form shells around themselves like a cold hardened exterior. But still erza has a big soft side that she lets everyone see.

(Y/N) doesn't share much and doesn't converse as much but, even if she won't show it she loves everyone in the guild seeing them as her friends; no family. She's never had a real family and when she came to the guild they accepted her with open arms and now she's been residing there for over 11 years.

She struggles a lot though and as much as the guild has offered their help she refuses to take it. "A burden of everyones time" is what her father used to say to her when he'd beat her relentlessly. She's become accustomed to that and it stuck with her ever since.

She won't admit it but she's a big softy on the inside, but don't tell anyone i said that.

She could be wounded severely and still won't attend to her self first, she would make sure everyone else was okay and after that she'd clean herself up. And if someone wasn't okay she will jump into healing them considering she knew some healing magic.

" (Y/N) maybe you should take a rest you look pretty injured yourself, Wendy could always finish it off at the g-"

" i'm completely fine Natsu now would you shut up and let me heal your wounds"

"But (Y/N) your looking a bit pale are you su-"

" i said shut up" she glared at him causing him to shudder.

" A life for a life" something she'd whisper every time she had to heal someone and was injured herself. It was like her Motto.

Although, Sometimes her guard can be down from healing someone and not taking care of herself making a fellow guild member step in to cover her back

" I got you covered (N/N) ". the ice mage would say.

Almost every time she would be in trouble and need help it would be him who would be there to help her.

" Please don't help me Gray, I cant take care of it myself"

He would always have the same Creased eyebrow and frown etched on his face when those words would tumble out of her mouth.

" But you're injured! Look at you ! i'm surprised your even still able to function" he would yell back almost every time.

And every time Said girl heard those words she would start to tremble lip quivering and all.

She was a burden.

The last time someone helped her they died, she doesn't want it to happen again.

She fell to the ground on her knees holding herself while her body trembled and eyes glasses over.

After he finished off the rest of the bad guys he'd always rush to where she was left in the same spot.

He'd hug her and ask her the same thing he's asked over and over again. Watching the Fat tears roll down her face.

" Why must you cry every time i try to save you ? "

he wasn't expecting a response back, usually she would be quite, and just melt into his icy touch. But this time she did speak, quietly, voice shaky filled with fear and sadness.

"b-because i-i'm... not worth your l-love and time i'm nothing but a pitiful w-waste of space; a burden of your time."

He didn't say anything for awhile trying to process everything that just came out of the quivering girls mouth.

He felt lightheaded and dizzy like he was going to pass out at any second now. Why. Why would she think this he wondered.

He finally spoke quietly voice cracking and all trying to hold on to the tears that threatened to cascade down his face with her.

" Please " he croaked softly to the small girl in his arms.

" Please, don't ever ever think that you are a burden to me (N/N)" he paused checking to see if she was listening to him, seeing that she was he continued pulling her head to the crook of his neck whispering into her ear.

" I-I love you to much, I save you because I love you ! God i love you so much and i hate seeing you hurt, My heart sinks and becomes heavy every time i see you hurt on the battle field not caring about your own wounds, knowing that if you don't heal yourself soon you'll die. "

he looked down to see that you moved your head now staring at him with wide eyes.

he continued now crying at this point not being able to hold in his tears " And p-please please please don't call yourself a burden, you'll never ever be a burden to me or the guild okay ? we all love you; I love you so please "

Said girl cried more and more but this time not just in sadness but in happiness to, finally feeling she didn't always have to rely on her self now. Thinking, that maybe now she can finally let her guard down, that she was blind and naive pushing people that cared for her away.

without much thought she spewed out those special words quietly but loud enough for him to hear.

Cracking a teary-eyed smile she went to his ear and whispered

" I love you too Gray Fullbuster "

This took me a while to write, it's not that great but i'm trying my best. I found it easier to make a list of every point in my story i was going to write or what i thought i could use and i think it turned out okay.

so yes ! i do own this story and a few other ones that are swimming around in here.

i did find this prompt from the wonderful tumblr and thought it was a good story prompt so i used it and constructed my own little one-shot from it.
