Winning
I smirked deviously as I crept up on the distracted dark wizard leaning against a tree. My [e/c] orbs narrowed in concentration, determined to not make a single sound to give away my position. I was merely five feet away from my best friend when I claimed victory with a triumphant smile...
I celebrated too soon...
The moment I sprung towards him in a tackle he darted out of the way in less then a second, turned my trajectory, and pinned me to the ground.
"What is the score now?" Zeref asked, clearly annoyed.
I grit my teeth and tried to fight back the blush raging on my features at the position we were in. Any passerby would have instantly gotten the wrong idea. However, last time I checked it was just Zeref and I on Tenrou island, if you don't count the wolves and other wild animals scattered about.
"Zero to thirty-two..." I reluctantly admitted.
The dark-haired mage sighed. "I wish you would give up already...."
I grinned widely. "Never!" And began struggling desperately to escape Zeref's grip to no avail. It seemed so long ago since I had arrived on Tenrou island to paint a legendary picture of the first master of Fairy Tail, Mavis Vermillion, as a present for the powerhouse known as Natsu in thanks. After all, if it wasn't for him I would be dead now, seeing as he had saved my life from bandits. And that was when I had met my friend.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I yawned, stretching my sore limbs as I navigated through the forest in search of the first master's grave. It was just then that I realized the drastic change in scenery. The once lush, green trees were now leafless and dead.
What the hell happened?
My ears perked as I heard a muffled sound that sounded like sobbing coming from the clumped, thick trees. Curiosity gripped my actions at the thought of someone else on the island. Pushing back the leaves that occasionally whipped in my face, I trudged on towards the sound of a voice.
When I eventually approached the noise I was met with the sight of a person leaning against a tree. He had dark ebony locks draped over his forehead that hid his eyes from view. He was dressed in something like a black and white toga, clothing porcelain ivory skin.
"Umm... Hello?" I chirped. As if my voice broke him from his thoughts, his head snapped up to meet my own. My mouth parted slightly as I saw his face, freshly gleaming with tears.
"Hey! Are you ok?" I began jogging towards him before he started desperately crawling backwards with widened eyes.
"S-Stay away from me!" He stuttered, holding his hands up.
I blinked. "What's wrong?" I asked, leaning towards him.
Suddenly, the boy gripped his head in pain, only speaking with a lined, straining voice. "I-I Can't control my magic!!" He screamed.
A dark cloud began to form around his body. "Please! Run!!"
But no matter how sincere his voice was I couldn't bring myself to run away and abandon someone in pain, no matter who they were. With this though the cloud suddenly expanded, devouring everything it touched with it's shadowy hunger. I held my ground as the darkness encompassed me, and I fell into darkness.
I had woken up with the presence of water droplets on my cheeks, sliding down my [s/c] skin. Once I had squinted my eyes open I saw the boy from before, leaning over my body while holding his head in his hands, tears leaking from the cracks in his hands.
"Hey..." I muttered weakly. The person hovering over me instantly silenced his sorrow, pulling his hands back to stare at me with wide eyes. It was here I finally got to see his eyes. They were dark pools of charcoal, those obsidian orbs holding me fully captivated.
"Y-You're alive?" He echoed, lifting my hand.
I smirked tiredly, it felt like I hadn't slept in days and had just run a marathon all at once. "Yep... Feels like it"
"But you... My magic- how..." I had just begun to review all that happened as the memories flowed back into my conscious mind.
"What was that magic?" I felt the need to ask the obvious question at hand.
His eyes flashed with sadness as he helped me sit up. "That... I have power over a branch that should never be explored..."
I rolled my eyes as he played the pronoun game. "E-La-Bor-Ate" I spelled out each syllable.
"My... My name is Zeref" In shocked confusion I began looking at him up and down. This guy? This adorable guy with soft black hair and tear-stained features was the evil dark wizard of death?
"Well... That explains a few things" I muttered, shocked.
He flinched, as if I was going to either take off screaming or try to punch him. I flashed him a kind smile. "Don't worry. I'm not gonna run away or anything, I was just surprised"
"B-But I-" Zeref stuttered before I silenced him my pushing my index finger against his lips.
"Shh! No point in feeling guilty for something that you learned from!" He stared at my finger like it was the most interesting thing in the world before I pulled away.
"My name is [y/n]. It's a pleasure to meet you Zeref!"
That was about two months ago and since then I had decided to stay here permanently with the dark mage. After all, I was the only friend he had. If I left I don't think that he would have even been able to take it. Despite being the most powerful dark wizard in the world he really was just a big softy.
But none of this was going to help me right now!
I thrashed like a fish out of water while Zeref just stared at me with a rare, tiny smile and a fond look in his cold eyes.
Suddenly I got an idea. An idea that made me blush but would still work.
I halted my actions as Zeref tilted his head in confusion. I saw my chance and without a second thought, quickly pressed my lips to Zeref's.
I had never seen Zeref blush before but oh my god it was so satisfying to see it. His pink tinged cheeks gave me my opening, shoving his weight against him and pinning him down on the ground.
"YES!! I WIN!!" I cheered victoriously.
My best friend had seemingly recovered from his shock but his blush still remained.
"W-What was that?" He muttered quietly.
With the cheerfulness of victory still in my veins I was unaware of Zeref's question.
"That? Well... umm... That's called a kiss..." Zeref nodded slightly, before moving over to me and repeating my action, pressing his pale, bloodless lips onto mine. My hands waved around, uncertain of where to put them, before I actually understood what was going on.
Zeref was kissing me!
He pulled away, even more flushed then before. "I-I am told that is what you do to show friendship, yes?" I scratched my head awkwardly at the tension.
"Umm, a little bit more then friends..." His eyes widened in acknowledgement before flashing me the largest smile I could have ever seen him wear. And by GOD did he look cute.
"I believe you mean the concept of love, correct?" I nodded, unsure of where he was going with this.
"Well then, I do think that I have fallen in love with you, [y/n]" My heart skipped a beat before I smiled in return.
"I think so too..." And our lips made contact once again.
