It is the end of earth. All humans have been eradicated and the animals are dead too. The plants will follow soon, but as the Angel Patton and the Demon Logan stand before Virgil, they do not know who his soul should be given to. Except Virgil has no soul, and he is Death. He has come upon the two to reap their souls and allow them to take their place among those in heaven for their dutiful work and their undying friendship.
