Maybe she has some sort of end of year prom thingy for graduation maybe? I think when you're 14, you're going on from Year 9 to 10, which is when my uniform changes. I don't know about France. I do know that you could be moved up years, moved down, repeat years, skip years and stuff, so not everyone in one year is the same age as they are in the uk.
Since Marinette is 14, she is most likely in 9th grade/Year 10/la troisième.
But do people in France get some sort of graduation prom thing before going to high school/lycée?
